DEEPENING PRESENCE Mindfulness Meditation for Health Care Professionals & Caregivers Bill Morgan, PsyD & Susan Morgan, CNS Sundays, February-August, 2014 Limit: 15 participants Please register here – http://meditationandpsychotherapy.org/sites/default/files/TPG, 2014 Registration Form_0.doc As interest in mindfulness grows in all aspects of mental and medical health care, more and more clinicians aspire to practice meditation regularly in their daily lives. However, our best intentions often yield to the demands of our fast-paced lives. One of the best ways to nurture a personal mindfulness practice and experience its many benefits is to practice with others. Guidance and support from seasoned practitioners can be helpful as well. The instructors of this program have recently ended a multi-year meditation retreat at the Forest Refuge in Barre, MA and are looking forward to practicing with colleagues and sharing what they have learned. The meetings will be held in a lovely meditation space in the basement of St John’s Chapel on Brattle St in Cambridge. The goal of this program is to deepen presence—warm, connected, mindful awareness—in one’s personal and professional lives. Participants will be introduced to a range of mindfulness techniques that can be integrated into personal meditation practice or applied at the workplace. A core text in Buddhist psychology, the Satipatthana Sutta, will be used as a guide to explore the four foundations of mindfulness. The program consists of six 3-hour practice sessions, interspersed over six months. These sessions will include a brief didactic presentation, meditation practice, and discussion. There will also be two day-long retreats and an evening of informal sharing. Participants will be invited to meet twice during the course with one of the teachers for private conversations about their meditation challenges and aspirations. Please plan to attend all nine meetings when you register for this program. We hope to create a sangha together—an engaged community of likeminded practitioners—that will support your own aspirations and those of others. Participants will also be encouraged to practice meditation for 30-45 minutes per day, and to keep a practice journal. 20 CE credits are available to psychologists, nurses, social workers and licensed mental health counselors. To receive CE credits for this program, most participants need to attend 80% of the sessions. Cost: $600 Participants will be able to: Practice key strategies for maintaining a daily meditation practice. Utilize mindfulness, concentration and compassion practices to deepen therapeutic presence. Identify the four foundations of mindfulness and their relevance for alleviating mental suffering. Monitor their own practice, identifying wholesome and unwholesome habits of mind during meditation and in daily life. Apply strategies for supporting wholesome mind states and managing unwholesome ones.
