May 2011 The Supervisor, Yaitya Tirramangkotti Team is an operational role within the Crisis Response Unit and is accountable to the Manager, Crisis Response Unit for: reducing social disadvantage by the effective leadership and management of the Yaitya Tirramangkotti Team within a state-wide Aboriginal Child Protection Intake Service; participating in a service model that respects the values of Aboriginal people; providing a high quality minimally intrusive state-wide child protection intake service that is relevant, culturally accountable and accessible to Aboriginal clients providing the opportunity for consumer participation; leading an effective social work service delivery which maximises the equitable use of resources within budget limitations by the efficient overall management of work and wise exercise of delegations; providing child protection referral services for Aboriginal people, Government and non-Government agencies. Initial appointment will be to Yaitya Tirramangkotti but the appointee may be reassigned to any other location within the State to perform work of a similar nature appropriate to the classification, either on a temporary or permanent basis. Current drivers licence is essential. Intrastate travel involving overnight absences may be required QUALIFICATIONS Essential A degree in social work or qualification approved by the Chief Executive. Pursuant to Section 67 of the Public Sector Management Act 1995, people of Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent applying for roles within Families SA who have the appropriate background, knowledge and skills, but not the listed formal tertiary qualifications in social work, are eligible to apply for this role. 4. PRIMARY OUTCOMES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Client Service Communications and information management Leadership & Management Organisational Contribution RELATED TASKS Provide a high quality minimally intrusive State-wide child protection intake service that is relevant, culturally accountable and accessible to Aboriginal clients providing the opportunity for consumer participation. Facilitate the reduction of social disadvantage for Aboriginal people by the development and coordination of child protection intake services for Aboriginal children. Direct an effective social work service delivery which maximises the equitable use of resources within budget limitations by the efficient overall management of work and wise exercise of delegations. Provide child protection referral services for Aboriginal people, Government and nonGovernment. Facilitate knowledge and develop local, regional and state-wide networks to promote joint planning with a broad range of Government and non-Government agencies, consistent with the needs of Aboriginal people. Liaise with a range of Government and non-Government service providers and ensure consistency with Government policies, legislation and consult with members of organisation from the Aboriginal community. Promote the competent performance of staff by providing appropriate orientation, access to all relevant legislation, supervision, staff development and appraisal, and rewarding good practice. Achieve the maximum potential of the team by providing effective leadership, facilitation of participatory goal setting, resolution of conflict, control of work pressure, promotion of a balanced range of staff skills and assisting in the management of change. Promote professional social work practice in the team by enabling the full range of culturally acceptable intervention methodologies with a focus on a holistic framework Contribute to the professional knowledge base, reinforce professional ethics and standards in decision making and participate in the supervision and training about the cultural considerations regarding notifications to departmental staff and student trainees. Plan and monitor the performance of Yaitya Tirramangkotti team to ensure the delivery of quality services in line with the State Strategic Plan and DECD’s Strategic Agenda. JOB SPECIFIC CAPABILITIES Networking and Relationships – build relationships within Families SA other with agencies and service provider’s relevant to the work of Yaitya Tirramangkotti to enhance the work of the team and the services provide to both Families SA District Centres and to Aboriginal children and families. Aboriginal Cultural Knowledge Base – demonstrate a knowledge base of a diverse range of clients and cultures, in particular the knowledge of Aboriginal culture, and apply that knowledge in the work undertaken by Yaitya Tirramangkotti Team and the broader Crisis Response Unit. 3 Team Management - proven experience in supervising a team, managing and prioritising workloads, and managing the interface between other teams within the Crisis Response Unit in order to meet agreed deadlines to achieve required outcomes. 4 Effective Communication - demonstrated ability to represent the Department and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, children & young people, courts and non-government agencies and staff at all levels and with staff of Families SA. 5 Conflict Resolution - clarify situations, act impartially and use influence, negotiation and persuasion to effectively mediate the conflict and devise a workable solution. 7.
