In partnership with The Oxnard Family Peace Project (CEDC), The Partnership for Safe
Families & Communities of Ventura County, The Designated Child Abuse Prevention
Council and The Oxnard Alliance for Community Strength presents a free workshop, Family
Activism: How to Apply Self-Help Tools to Increase Family Healing and Power
workshop from 8:30am-12:00pm (8-8:30am registration/continental breakfast), Wednesday
July 15, 2009, located at Child Development Resources of Ventura County, 221 Ventura
Blvd, Rooms A & B, Oxnard, Ca. Participants will learn about the Family & Community
Power Approach as a proactive strategy for family and community well-being, how to use Family
Activism, explore the use of co-powering communication, tools for personal empowerment and
sustainability and deepen relationships for collaboration with other family service professionals.
Presenter Dr. Roberto Vargas is a nationally recognized planning facilitator, leadership trainer and
author of Family Activism: Empowering Your Community Beginning with Family and Friends (2008).
Together with the Cabrillo Economic Development Corporation Dr. Vargas initiated the Oxnard Family
Power Project in 2008 to engage youth and families to identify strategies for violence prevention and
community betterment.

from Internet Predators”…an Internet Safety workshop for parents, from 1-4pm on
Saturday, September 26, 2009, located at the Camarillo Community Church, 1322 Las Posas
Rd, Camarillo, CA. Protect your child by being informed-empower your child against online
predators. Parents will learn about the dangers of the web and web lingo, how to identify cyber
bullying, how to devise a family computer policy, how to navigate the socializing websites, how to monitor
internet chats, and how to recognize sexual abuse, including “grooming” behavior. Presenter: La County
DA, Robin Sax-frequently seen on Nancy Graves, Larry King Live, Fox News, and author of: Child
Molesters and Predators: A Sex Crimes DA Answers Parents 100 Most Asked Questions.

Child Abduction, Intervention and Resource Training
The California Child Abduction Task Force presents a two-day
FREE training in Santa Rosa, CA from 8:-4:30am on July 14 15, 2009. This skill enhancement training on family and nonfamily abductions introduces participants to a multi-disciplinary
approach to assist professionals working within all facets of child
abduction. It is suitable for: Child Abuse Prevention Councils;
Victim Witness; Law Enforcement; Prosecutors; Child Protective
Services; Mental Health; Non-profit Organizations; Child Abuse
and Abduction Programs; Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence
Programs. Participants are responsible for travel, lodging, and all
