Library offers fun, free events for fall
The Clinton-Macomb Public Library is pleased to roll out its fall event calendar,
which includes events for all ages.
The Clinton-Macomb Public Library is a proud participant in the One Book, One
Community program from now through October. This year’s program focuses on one
author, instead of one book and that author is Jane Austen. “Although she only wrote
six books, there are still adaptations of her work being written today,” said Jamie
Morris, Community Relations Specialist.
The Clinton-Macomb Public Library is offering two book discussions surrounding
the Austen program. On Thursday, September 10 at 7 p.m. the Main Library’s book
group, Novel Conversations, will discuss the book The Jane Austen Book Club at 7 p.m.
The South Branch is also hosting a book discussion featuring a work of Jane Austen. On
Saturday, September 12 at 12 p.m. the South Branch will discuss Pride and Prejudice.
No registration is required to attend either book group. Simply read the book and show
up to discuss it.
The Main Library will further explore the heritage of Jane Austen when it
welcomes chef and caterer Fran Salvatore from Pamela’s Catering to discuss how to
-more-
bake for an English tea. Participants will see Salvatore demonstrate how to make dishes
appropriate for a tea party and go home with the recipes. Registration is limited and
begins September 1. Call (586) 226-5050 or visit the What’s Happening page at
www.cmpl.org to register.
Adults also have a chance to learn about all the wonderful mysteries and thrillers
the library has to offer when the Main Library hosts Once Upon a Crime. The program
will take place on Wednesday, September 16 at 7 p.m. and feature a variety of books and
authors for mystery-lovers. Participants are asked to bring a title of their favorite
mystery or thriller to share with the group as well. Registration begins September 2.
Call (586) 226-5050 or visit the What’s Happening page at www.cmpl.org.
If cooking and literature aren’t of interest, the library also has a program planned
for sports-lovers. On Monday, September 14 at 2 p.m. the Main Library, in conjunction
with the Lorenzo Cultural Center on the campus of Macomb Community College, will
present a documentary on Tiger Stadium. Meghan Mott from the Lorenzo Cultural
Center will also be on hand to discuss the exhibit More Than A Game: How Sports
Shapes Culture that opens at the Cultural Center on September 16. Registration begins
September 1. Call (586) 226-5040 or visit the What’s Happening page at www.cmpl.org
to register.
Teens also have the opportunity to have some fun at the library when the Main
Library hosts an open gaming day for those in grade 6-12. The Wii, Xbox and
-more-
Playstation and assorted games will be available for teens on Friday, September 18 at
3 p.m. No registration is required.
Finally, the library is pleased to welcome the Sunday concert series Music at Main
back on Sunday, September 20 at 2 p.m. The Main Library will welcome classic
guitarist Peter Fletcher all the way from New York. Fletcher will present selections from
his 2008 release Music of the Baroque. This concert is free and open to the public. No
registration is required.
In addition to special events, the Clinton-Macomb Public Library offers book
discussions and movie programs for all ages. Visit www.cmpl.org for more information
on all Clinton-Macomb Public Library events. The Main Library is located at 40900
Romeo Plank Road in Clinton Township.
