SELECTED CURATORIAL AND PROGRAMMATIC
STILL STANDING PROJECT
08/2014-12/2014
Worked as part of a team to gather visitor information and data through visitor surveys conducted at the Bellamy Mansion
Museum and through focus groups conducted with interest groups. Visitors and focus group participants were asked about
their opinions regarding slave dwellings and their preservation. I conducted 15 visitor surveys in interview format at the
Bellamy Mansion and conducted two focus groups, one with African American community leaders and one with museum
professionals with a demonstrated interest in the interpretation of slavery and slave dwellings. Using the amassed data from
the team as well as secondary and primary literature about slave dwellings, their history, and their preservation, I wrote a
visitor evaluation report analyzing the dominant themes and trends that arose from the visitor data and placing visitor
assumptions in context of the history of preservation and slave dwellings. The report made several recommendations for
necessary topics to be covered for an upcoming exhibit on the history and preservation of slave dwellings.
