GCSE Drama Course 2014/2015
This course looks at Drama as a practical subject, developing skills of improvisation, role play, script and
performance. An intellectual approach is necessary in terms of selecting the appropriate drama form to
express an issue or an idea.
There are many strands to the course:
Performance skills, speech and movement
The study of text in a working context
Working creatively in groups of different sizes
Creating a piece of drama for a particular audience
Examining the language of drama, i.e... space, movement and words
Understanding the importance and use of set design, lighting, costume and make up
Written work in order to evaluate your own work, that of others and that of productions you may see
This will enable students to:
Respond creatively to various stimuli
Create their own performances
Adopt and sustain a role
Develop imagination and self confidence
Gain personal skills
Work with others
The course takes place over one school year (3 terms) and classes will be held twice a week for two hours,
however at assessment times the sessions will be extended and extra ones organised to prepare for the
final performance.
Classes start
Tuesday 17th September 6.00 to 8.00
Coursework sessions from November until completion
Thursday 6.00 to 8.00
Sunday rehearsal during May prior to Unit 3 performance at the end of May
All sessions are compulsory and missing sessions will have a direct impact on the students’ final grade.
Students can expect to attend at least one play during the course, which will be arranged by the Centre.
Predicted Grades will be made available in February and there will be an opportunity to discuss these with
the course tutor after class on a Tuesday evening.
