Mrs.Manee Namsiripongpan Editor of “Smiles Journal” 1 Background of Universal Foundation for Persons with Disabilities Professor Wiriya Namsiripongpan In 1995 - 1998, Thailand encountered economic crisis. Many business was collapsed and closed their business. This crisis caused employees lost their jobs. It was my inspiration to write the book named “Survive, hapless create the chance” which it collaborated many morality words from Miss Genevieve Caulfield (American Blind Lady who established The Bangkok Blind School) and Sister Rose Mour (Master Superior of The Bangkok Blind School). Their morality words create my inspiration till I am successful in my life and I can be instructor of Faculty of Law at Thammasart University. I hope this book will be inspiration for readers to be happy everyday, although you encounter any heavy problem. This is called “know how to take crisis to be your good chance”. In the same time, I think of many persons with disabilities who still are suffering and do not have chances like me. As this reason, I made decision to take incomes from this book sale and invite the readers to make merit by donate subsidy with me to establish “Universal Foundation for Persons with Disabilities” in order to support persons with disabilities all round country. I and my family could accumulate our funding and subsidy till established Universal Foundation for Persons with Disabilities successfully on 2nd February 1999. By we use my home to locate foundation as License No.Tor.50/1999 and there are objectives as follows: (1) To campaign for Thai people believe that “Persons with disabilities have potential and human honor equal as normal persons. (2) To support persons with disabilities since they were born until they can work and in order to support they can rely on themselves. As for persons who disable in strong level and who live in poor family, they should obtain better quality life. (3) To coordinate sources and procure proper resources to support persons with disabilities, both central public and local public, including resources from private organizations or domestic and oversea. Universal Foundation for Persons with Disabilities was permitted to be “Commonweal Organization” on 18th November 2005, Registration No.0460 and was permitted to be 2 “Commonweal Organization” on 14th February 2007, No.628 as Ministry of Finance’s announcement. Many provincial special education centers establish own Universal Foundations for Persons with Disabilities around Thailand. Each of them do activities independently and separate from head quarter in Bangkok. They have own committee of their foundations and earn more income to support their own foundations and their own provincial special education centers by themselves. By head quarter also supports more incomes for many projects and support to check their management for clearness. Present projects of Universal Foundation for Persons with Disabilities are as follows: (1) Project of Workshop to gain knowledge and rehabilitate children with disabilities. (2) Project of First aid for persons with autistic and children who lack learning potential. (3) Project of Burden to be power and promote family to rehabilitate persons with disabilities in strong level and poor in order to change parents become teachers and (4) Project of Camping which develop potential and freedom life for children with disabilities. (5) Project of Education for children with disabilities who live in distant rural areas. (6) Project of Short-Course Vocational Training. (7) Project of Daisy Audi-Book Library for the blinds (8) “Smiles” Project Professor Wiriya Namsiripongpan President of Universal Foundation for Persons with Disabilities 3 “Smiles” Project Professor Wiriya and Mrs.Manee Namsiripongpan In order to campaign Thai social believe and esteem in persons with disabilities’s potential as “Persons with disabilities can do more excellent than anyone think”. Therefore, Universal Foundation for Persons with Disabilities creates “How to Survive” Featured T.V. Program to be short program only 5 minutes. It demonstrates to potential and abilities of persons with disabilities and there is composed song by His Majesty the King of “How to Survive”. Consequently, we also manage “Smiles” Featured T.V. Program enlarger 30 minutes. It is featured T.V. program to create smiles and gain goodness to social, including create spirit power for persons with disabilities and normal persons in social. We use main contents with persons with disabilities’s stories. This featured T.V. program respectfully engage composed song by His Majesty the King of “Smiles”, which our King composed this song for the blinds and be “smiles” for them. At first, we obtained subsidy from Ministry of Social Development and Human Security. And we could On-Air this “Smiles” Featured T.V. Program via Cable T.V. of True Vision in 2007 and have chance to On-Air via Thai Public Broadcasting Service every Thursday at 15.05 – 15.30 hrs. since July 2008 till now. Recently we obtained support and subsidy from Thai Public Broadcasting Service. Bureau of Promotion and Protection of The Disadvantaged has chosen “Smiles” Featured T.V. Program to be media presents commonweal activities towards persons with suffering and Office the National Human Rights Commission of Thailand has considered “Smiles” Featured T.V. Program offers more advantage for people truly. “Smiles” Featured T.V. Program was divided to be 5 groups as follows: (1) Art Works and Persons with Disabilities (2) Ideal Persons with Disabilities (3) Prototype Local Organization 4 (4) Ideal Supporters for Persons with Disabilities (5) Prototype Development for Persons with Disabilities From production of “Smiles” Featured T.V. Program, we found that art works and contributions from persons with disabilities ’s craftsmanship are elegant and artistic so much, which show persons with disabilities ’s potential and abilities. Consequently, Universal Foundation for Persons with Disabilities created “Smiles Gallery” project in order to be “Exhibition and Distribution Center” for art works and contributions from persons with disabilities s craftsmanship from all round Thailand. “Smiles Gallery” located at 27/5 Arunamarin Soi 39, Arunamarin Road, Bangkok Noi, Bangkok 10700. We welcome everyone to visit “Smiles Gallery” everyday with no charge since 08.30 – 16.30 hrs. There are a number of people need to know about “Smiles Person” stories from printing media and we would like to campaign normal people realize to potential of “Smiles Persons” with efficiency and effectiveness. Then we publish “Smiles Journal”, and hope this journal will be advantage for readers, including grasp persons with disabilities ’s feltings and stories. In conclusion, “Smiles Project” consist of “Smiles” Featured T.V. Program, “Smiles Gallery” and “Smiles Journal”. 5 Artist on The Bed Mr.Pronot Wattanasawas Address No.203 Moo 4, Baan Tung Pao, Wang Nua, Wang Nua, Lumpang 52140 Mr.Pronot is Chiang Mai citizen. At first, he worked for Provincial Electricity Authority in Chiang Mai province. Unfortunately, in 1982 he had an accident while he was working. He was short by low electric current and he fell away from electric pole. From this accident, he become paralysis from chest to the end of foot. While he was treating in hospital for 2 years, it caused Mr.Pronot made an afford to learn and practice vocational works. He said “Doctor told me that I had to work on the bed only. Because I could not sit to work long time. Major reasons are bedsore and operations. So I had to work on wheel-chair.” At first year, it caused Mr.Pronot found his affectionate work which he did not have chance to learn it when he was young. That was the Arts. He tried to draw line figure. In 1984, he had chance to study for Arts at Chiang Mai Polytechnic School. He started to learn color usage. But he could learn only periodically. Because he had to cure bedsore and went to under operation. He was treated for 6 months per time. Mr.Pranot also took color and equipment to do at hospital until bedspread was dirty because of his painting. However the doctor never blamed him and permitted he did it. It was good starting point and it was strong inspiration to other patients with disabilities too. 6 Mr.Pranot said “In 2003, I has established about Painting Club by myself (located at my home) and took my contributions to sell at walking street in Chiang Mai. Afterwards, Yoga Nanda Foundation also supported project of Earth Band Hand Painted by Disabled Persons. Yoga Nanda Foundation supported all expenses for Bag Production and took all bags to paint by persons with disabilities. I taught other persons with disabilities to paint the bags too. Now there are 60 members joined to paint the bags in our club. Morning activities of our club is between 09.00 – 11.00 hrs., we always provide massage each other and physical therapy massage. Persons with little disabilities will massage for persons with more disabilities. At that time, persons with disabilities talk together and offer spirit power each other. Afterwards, Universal Foundation for Persons with Disabilities was led by Professor Wiriya Namsiripongpan supported and promoted us by create personal logo for Mr.Pranot, purchased his painting contributions and be representative to sell Earth Bag Hand Painted by Disabled Persons The most pride of Mr.Pranot in 1986 was he had chance to draw royal photo of King Bhumiphol, HRH Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, HRH Princess Soamsawali and in 1993 he drew The King and Mr.Thongdaeng (King’s Dog) with oil color. (These paintings were showed at “Smiles Gallery”) Now Mr.Pranot take 70% - 80% of his life to support public. At same time his wife and daughter are closely and offer spirit power to him strongly and constantly. This is an idol family. He said “I proud and pleasant so much and will intend to do goodness further”. 7 Twice-Life Boat Mr.Yanongkorn Suwanna Address No.24/2 Moo 10 Plaikhao, Hua Sai, Nakornsrithammaraj 80170 He felt arthritis without any reason since he was 17 years old. It caused he could not walk fluently. Unfortunately, he was that for years. He said “Someone told me that I was Rhuematism”. When he was 20 years old, he went under the operation. Nevertheless, he felt bad continually. All backbones stick together, remained only two arms could move. At that time, Mr.Yanongkorn stayed with his father and mother. He told “My parents felt so sad. But I did not felt serious so that my parents relaxed stress. I thought only took the time be valuable. When I did, I knew I could do many things”. “…at first I invested to be cattleman and took cows to eat grass in the farm by farm – wheel chair. I sat in front of wheel chair and took my hands to move smoothly. Every morning, I felt bad because I had to chase cows … I made decision to sell all cows…I liked boat, so I took my time to make some boats”. 8 He started to draft and draw a boat. He said “I saw authentic boats at Pak Panung district. I remembered it to invent by myself by minimize size. At first, I found some wood by myself, not bought, not used saw and not hire someone to saw and not hire someone to saw it. I did every steps by myself. I used axe chopped and made it, which it took so long time because I used only axe and chisel. After complete, there was customer bought it. I accumulated some money to buy more tools. I could earn more income till I could buy this house”. Because of spirit power from father and mother, friends such Dr.Warunee and Dr.Somsak Lertpaiboon (Owner of Petroleum Oil Station at Huasai District, Nakornsrithammarat) and Professor Wiriya Namsiripongpan who help to buy his contributions and boats, this made his life was better. The most spirit power is Mrs.Arob, his wife who stayed together more ten years since they are students. Mrs.Arob said that “Mr.Yanongkorn is honest man who keep his words, generous and sincere. We do not meet each other so long time. He surprise me with asking for wedding. I cannot believe at first because we never talk about wedding before. However, I make decision to accept that”. There were many times that Mr.Yanongkorn said “He doesn’t know his life goals”. Mr.Arob always reassure him “For ourselves, for better life and for more value life”. 9 Ideal Persons with Disability of the Great Mountain Mr.Weera Khaneoy Address No.277 Moo5 Kumloan, Larnsaka, Nakornsrithammarat Mr.Weena Khaneoy has ever obtained honor plate from Her Royal Highness Princess Soamsawali. He also was supporter caused “Kiri Wong Community Group” rewarded for “Prototype Village”. Kiri Wong Community Group arisen from Mr.Weera’s idea to adapt natural resources become products from coconut shell, products from mangosteen peel and developed community to be learning sources for youths and worked with Special Education Centers. At first, Mr.Weera was a gardener. When he was 23 years old. He climbed up to mangosteen tree and fell down. It caused his backbone overlapped nervous and caused his muscle weaken. While he was treated at hospital for 5 years, he encountered more suffering from bed sore. He felt boring and needed to go home. However, he thought “If I go home, what can I do. I think and think because I am person with disability, I do not have spirit power from anyone. I think if I died, maybe not born again. So I change my mind, I will change my hapless to be chance. I buy some disused saline rubber hose invented to be animal shapes such as shrimp or fish hang-mobile. Other patient’s relatives buy them 20-30 baht per piece. I created inspiration and spirit by myself. I had more income enough to looked after myself and did not rely on my relatives. Now I rehabilitate myself and there is my wife, Mrs.Butsabong who reassures and offers spirit power for me. In the past, I stayed on wheel-chair. Sometime I fell down to the floor. I always think I can disable but cannot lost my spirit power and brain”. 10 He said “If your mind weaken, your opportunities will drop. If you have strong mind, you still have round friends. You still obtain spirit power from your family and from many organizations that support you to survive truly. They support physical rehabilitation, education or vocation or any rights for persons with disabilities. Normal people always think persons with disabilities cannot do anything. I do not mind that, I think if we start to do we can do surely”. He said more that “Kiriwong Village” is a village where has three main fund : (1) Folk Wisdom (2) Natural Resources or Local Resources. (3) Human Resources He invented betel nuts became utility and coconut shell became cups cost 10 baht per piece. He sent these products to sell at Stirred Durian Group 50 pieces per time. He did it with his children. Products from Kloom Tree, which is short-bushes tree, sprouted cluster, height 2 meters, strong trunk and sticky. It can be used instead of bamboo and it can be used to be every kind of wickerwork. As for coconut shell which is easy to find in local areas, no risky when working and return balance to environment too. Products from coconut shell arise from skillful imagination of each person. We do not Struggle lonely, but we do for social and community. We obtain supports from Provincial Administrative Organization, Sub-district Administrative Organization, Professor Wiriya Namsiripongpan networks and Universal Foundation for Persons with Disabilities, as for additional education, knowledge and modern carving tools, including help for marketing distribution. 11 Artistic Life Mr.Pitsadarn Duang-In Address No. 48 Moo5 Saechang, Sunkumpaeng, Chiang Mai 50130 Mr.Pitsadarn or Mr.Nung, who was the deaf since he was born. When he went to school of Anusarn Soonthorn Audiovisual School, he learned finger language. He said “When I was children, I tried afford to survive and smiles. I had strong mind. I observed others and tried to do like others”. His father is the monk, named Guru Samarn Khemako, at Donpin Temple. He said to Mr. Nung that ”…….. At first, I thought my son was born and was normal. Unfortunately, when he grown up. I knew that my son was deaf. That time I felt so sad and could not accept it. I sent him to school. And I surprised that I did not teach him so much. But He could carve wood since he started to do it”. 12 Mr.Pitsadarn said “My father was craftsman, I remembered and practiced gradually. Every weekend I practice and learn carving with my father”. My first master piece was elephant sculpture. That time my father said to me “Re-carve again”. “I thought this sculpture was too hard for me. At first I tried to carve human face, but it was distorted. So I changed to carve elephant”. Nowadays, He is 34 years old. He also has deaf wife. His wife is a teacher of Audiovisual School at Tak Province. He has a daughter named “Nong Noi”, she is eight – year old He said that “I was pleasant that the doctor told me my daughter was not deaf. I and my wife never met problems to look after her. Because there were relatives helped to look after her”. Before Mr. Nung ’s uncle, Mr.Chanart Duang-In who is member of Ban Donpin Craftsmanship Community State Enterprise take Mr. Nung to participate with this group. Mr. Nung or Mr.Pitsadarn told that “Two major parts of work are own creative works and consignments and made to order works. Recently there was little made to order works. Because there were many competitors, Income was not stable and we meet marketing problems. After I worked with my uncle, my income was higher”. He provided us advice and spirit power that “Any kind of person with disability should has strong mind, I’d like every deaf like me practices to work since you are young. As for normal people should pay more attention towards persons with disabilities ’s abilities. Do not think persons with disabilities are different persons from other in social or cannot do anything like normal people. Please kindly offer opportunities us to share in social happily”. Thank you: Teacher Areerak Ruenkum, who is finger language interpreter that helped our team work could communicate with Mr.Pitsadarn smoothly. 13 The Ways of Life Mr.Naruphon Chutiwansophon Address No. 677/5 Soi Yarn Phothong , Pipith Road, Ban Khod, Muang, Chonburi 20000 Mr.Naruphon Chutiwansophon or Mr. Aod was born as normal children. At first he did not disable. When he was 16 years old (Study in grade 11). He was tumor at spinal cord within short time. He felt more suffer at chest for 10 minutes. After that he was not conscious, touched at his legs but he could not response. Until his father and mother came back, they took them to hospital for emergency cure. Doctor took him to x-ray and inject color into his spinal cord, then found that there was tumor at his spinal cord. It was necessary to take operation immediately in that evening. After operation passed, his end of foot could response and little move. And he got physical therapy that caused him better. Unfortunately, after six months he felt suffer at his chest again. This time he felt more suffer than last time. He had to walk with walking stick but felt harden too. So, He was treated at Prasat Neurological Institute in Bangkok. Doctor checked and found that there was tumor at his spinal cord. He was treated by radiation and rehabilitated by physical therapy subsequently but his muscle could not response again. It caused Mr. Aod could not walk as normal. 4-5 years ago, Mr. Aod tried to work such as craftsmanship works. He had chance to draw on clock dial. He thought he should practice to draw picture. After that he consulted with his parents. His parents contacted teacher to teach him at home. Fortunately that he learned with freelance artist, was not normal art teacher. Afterwards he learned with teacher Pratueng Emchareon, a famous artist of Thailand. Mr. Aod had chance to see teacher Pratueng’s contributions which exhibited near his home. 14 With a big famous artist and creative words of teacher Pratueng Emchareon, caused Mr. Aod had impressive and inspiration that “The dream come true, since I tried to practice art works seriously such as painting with oil color or mixed color or depend on creative details that I needed to create”. Nowadays, there are artistic works from his contributions. They be exhibited at many galleries. Every contribution is so various and artistic. (There are many contributions from his contributions be exhibited at “Smiles Gallery”). Mr. Aod offers good advice that “Social should refill spirit and warmness for who are in suffering in their life. It’s also hold on their status and pay attention towards their suffering till they can develop their potential and spirit strongly. Because they also can gain more goodness and value to social. 15 Dream Comes True With The End Of Foot! Mr.Lonson Lhokum Address No.97 Moo 2 Ban Phasamyod, Suppaiwan, Erawan, Leoi 42220 Mr.Loson Lhokum is 36 years old. He is World-Class artist who paint by his end of foot. He also rewarded for Grateful Child in 2006 and he also be instructor for children. He has ever participated “Create dreams to….. FESPIC Games in 1998, painted by his end of foot with Mr.Chalermchai Khositpipat. He narrated that “When I was born, I surprised and wondered why I did not have arms. I stayed at home for 18 years. I felt hurtful myself, no spirit power and someday I cried. I saw everyone has arms, compared with mine I felt so hurtful. That time I thought there was only me who was disable. Someday my brother opened T.V., I saw persons with disabilities could walk and could learn. I changed my mind suddenly and thought they could do why I could not do like them.” “I knew I could not do because my mind thought I could not do. Mind was important. I started to work and found that I could do it well. My inspiration comes from my mother. I pity my mother. She always offer me spirit power. I love my mother so much. I was sad that my family had to look after me all time. I always told myself that I had to survive for better life. I tried to rely on myself such as dressed T-shirt & pants, brush my teeth, take a bath. I designed the ways for few days and asked my brother to cut some wood as I needed. I created and made cupboard to help my dressing for 5 months. I tried to take spoon for food. I could take a bath by myself and tried to dress with my designed cupboard for one hour until I could dress for half hour”. 16 “I had chance to study at “Rehabilitation Center for Persons with Disabilities” of Christian Roman Catholic by Guru Yod Pimpisarn. There was officer come to pick up me everyday. I needed to paint. I practiced to draw cartoon and practiced the end of foot to draw smoothly for 3 years. I bought some books to read by myself and observed from morning natural. How does it sunshine? I observed color of blossom . I liked water color and acrylic color. I used normal tools but I designed proper table and chair. I created every steps by myself. At first, I made to order be post card cost 1 baht per piece. However, now my contributions cost more 10 thousand baht per piece. I would like to be painting instructor and teach persons with disabilities or poor persons, They will have chance to draw and earn more money like me. Professor Wiriya Namsiripongpan and his teamwork visited Mr.Loson Lhokum at Banphasamyod on 18th February 2007. Mr.Noppadon Thulichan, Director of Provincial Special Education Center (Leoy) took care construction for shelter to create Mr.Lonson Lhokum ’s artistic contributions. 17 Dream Comes True With Artistic Works Ms.Amporn Chanthavorn Address No. 41/1 Moo 1 Ongkarak, Phothong, Angthong 14120. Tel:+668-9238-5063 Ms.Amporn Chanthavorn is disabled with Polio. She has excellent abilities about wickerwork and she made reputation for Thailand by rewarded for International Abilympics 7th at Shizuoka City, Japan. Ms.Amporn told that when she was young. She had a high fever and her mother took her to vaccinate. Afterwards her left leg became stunted. I thought it caused from doctor vaccinated to nervous. But I did not serious about this. She started to make small fruit baskets cost 7 baht per piece. They can be made to be key rings. When Ms.Amporn played at her friend’s home. Her friend’s mother taught her to make it. She developed her skill from small fruit baskets to make and create more refined contributions. Her contributions were various and different from other. If we considered skimpy we thought her works were homespun. Her husband designed each bag and she weave the bags. This was working system in her family. When her daughter was free from school, her daughter helped her to weave too. Although income was not so high, but she saved money amount 1,000 baht per month. She saved expenses in family. This was sufficient economic system that proper for every family. As for time of competitions for weaving and final day “I feel very exciting and think I will reward for one medal, either silver medal or gold medal. I will take this proud come to Thailand”. When she participated to competition, she made fruit basket for 5 hours. Finally she got silver medal among 35 competitors which it was a great pride in her life. 18 Nowadays, Ms.Amporn works for wickerwork only which it is her favor. It is deemed her refined wickerwork is great successful and very famous. And she can open her showroom to exhibit and distribute her contributions on Phothong – Thachang road. Her showroom is next to Leoy road. There are various contributions in her showroom. Most of them is beautiful women handbags and can use to many ceremonies. In addition, Ms.Amporn also made special to customer’s orders. Her contributions are accepted and very artistic and new design for market. Sometime there are imitated works like hers which sell in lower price. Now Ms.Amporn think a project to transmit her knowledge to new generation of persons with disabilities. In order to they can rely on themselves in social. She offers spirit to persons with disabilities that “Survive! No Down Hearted! Because the success is waiting us to reach it” 19 Repairable Life Mr.Chokemongkon Sawaengkun Owner of Artificial Flower Shop Address No. 202 Martyawong Road, Tharap, Muang, Petchaburi 76000 When Mr.Chokemongkon or Mr. Choke was 25 years old, there was economic crisis all round the world. Mr. Choke was an employee who was fired from Helicopter Repairman in U.S.A. So he came back to Thailand. Soon he had an accident and his backbones were broken till he unconscious which caused he was disable. When he was conscious he found that he could not move from waist through foot. After accident, he read some Buddhism books. Sometime he watched T.V. because his health was not recovered. While he thought “Persons with more suffering than me could live happily why not I could do that. I had two hands to create works and support family. I tried to live and survive with my abilities”. 20 Mr. Choke restraint his mind for 3 months after he went out from hospital. And all members in his family took care him well, such as bathing or any activities in daily life. This made he had more spirit power to survive. Including Mr. Choke had positive thinking that made him recovered quickly. “At first I only watched T.V. on the bed and looked for Vocational School. One day I watched T.V. program that taught how to make flowers from jasmine soil. I was interested that. There was a teacher opened flower store at Petchaburi province. I knew that I went by small bus to learn and practice. I thought it was too hard for me at first. Because I had ever worked for repairing only. When she was 25 years old, she felt pained at her sockets so much and could see less than the past. She could see only little light. That time, there was someone burned lead near her home. It caused her eyes inflamed and irritated. After that she did not hesitate to see doctor at hospital. She still has a sore eyes for few days. When she waken up again. She saw only white color. Doctor told she had a glaucoma. Afterwards, her life was changed completely. She cleaned her home and walked slowly. She must be careful more. Her family worried about her and needed she stayed at home only. One day she listened to radio and knew that there was Sampran Rehabilitation & Training Center For Blind Women, where managed by Sister and Salesian Group. She needed to learn at there. But her family did not allow her to learn. They told they would not liked she live at other place. She felt disappointed and boring but she still waited to learn at there. When she was 31 years old, her aunt took her to apply and learn at there. She could practice to learn how to do daily activities like normal persons. She learned to use walking stick, movement, personality, greeting and told her name for asking some help from other. She also had chance to train Thai traditional massage. She chose to train at Sukh Samphad Network for 2 years. Moreover, she trained to knitting wool, crochet and thread too. Ms.Somsuang is a ideal blind lady who train Thai traditional massage at Sampran Rehabilitation & Training Center For Blind Women because the blinds always think they can not do anything and can not work. However, Ms.Samsuang is ideal that “The blind can do more excellent than anyone think”. 23 World of Anan Mr.Anan Phuttaraksa Address No.88 Moo 6, Ngim, Pong, Phayao 56140 Mr.Anan is a classic wooden craftsman of Phayao Province. Now he is 33 years old. He is disabled at his legs. He did not go to school because it was not convenient. He had to live at home. Up to he was 21 years old. He had chance to study in Vocational Training School at Yardfon Vocational Rehabilitation Center for Disabled Chiang Mai. He chose to learn Art Science because he was interested in drawing. He had idea to take drawing science mixed to craftsmanship. He never learned crafts science from anywhere. He studied from model by himself and guessed how to carve it. He practiced for years. His favors are view, forest and elephant. In fact, he love forest but never touch the real. At present the craftsmanship becomes his career. He can take crafts skill to support his family. He can earn more money to buy new house. Fortunately, he doesn’t meet any marketing problem. Generally, persons with disabilities always create contributions, then can not distribute in market. However there are many customers give him many orders. In addition, he set up craftsmanship group by himself. There are over 10 members. 24 The most proud of him and admire him by Pong Commuters are Mr.Anan supports and works for social and community. He sets time to teach housewife group to carve wood. He teaches to carve fish model and lamp in order to create more income to group. This makes housewife group can earns more income and takes income to develop own community too. His most proud is he can earn more money to help his father build a new house. He is a person with disability who is not burden of social. Mr.Aniruj Phanjobsingh Address No.111 moo 6, Salaya, Phuttamonthon, Nakorn Pathom Mr.Aniruj Phanjobsingh or Nong Bas rewarded for Gold Medal Type Ceramic from International Abilympics 7th in 2007 at Shizuoka City, Japan. Now he is 24 years old. His life is quite wonderful. Because when he was born, he was normal child. Up to he was 6 years old, he lost his hearing. He could hear some sounds so that he felt he was deaf. However he did not think he was different from anyone. Due to his family was warm and he could communicate with his parents. He practiced to see at lip of mouth and translate to be words. At first, Nong Bas studied Primary School P.1 – P.6 with normal students. Afterwards he moved to study Secondary School M.1 - M.6 at Tungmahamek Audiovisual School. He learned fingers language like children . When he finished high school, he had chance to study at Ratchasuda College, Mahidol University. He had more friends at here. His fingers language’s development was more quick than when he was young. He learned new and strange words and felt happy to learn at here. At first he thought there were only deaf students but he found that there were many normal students learned with him. He used fingers language to explain us. 26 Nong Bas selected to learn Ceramics Department, Subject of Ceramic Sculpturing. Because it was his favor since he was young and he dreamed to hold it be his career in the future. There were 100 students of this department. But there were only 14 students to learn ceramic subject. Ratchasuda College enrolls new students only 1 time per 4 years. Ratchasuda College, Mahidol University is college where was established with HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn ‘s kindheartedness. She would liked persons with disabilities had better quality life. Because she closed up to persons with disabilities since she was young. So she understood the problems and solutions for persons with disabilities well. She believed in their potential, vocational Skills and they could live in social happily, including they could rely on themselves. Teacher Ranee Sa-Ngiam, Artistry and Ceramics Department told with us “Even though the deaf ‘s outside look like us, but they need chance to show their contributions, chance to distribute contributions in the market and chance to do. Many times they lack some chances because they can not communicate by themselves. Then we have to support them to proof themselves and support them to rely on themselves in social”. 27 Artist with Gallantry Heart Teacher Thanong Kotechomphoo Address No.88 Moo 4 Banthon, Thabor, Nongkai 43110 Teacher Thanong Kotechomphoo said “The art can change my life”. He told to students who participated Literatures Camp. When he was born, he was normal child. Unfortunately later he had a muscular dystrophy. It caused he was disabled and could not help himself. Moreover, he was disabled with strong movement. When he was young, He was a strong children. While he was exercising in physical education hour, he became weaken. He ran and fell down. He tried to stand up and run again but he fell down again. Due to he thought it was an accident, he rest a moment. Next week, he ran and fell down again. He thought he was abnormal, but he never told to anyone. His mother observed his muscle stunted. She did not hesitate to take to him to see doctor. Doctor only said he lacked exercise and nutrition. However teacher Thanong knew later that if he moved more, his symptom was more. His inspiration came from chance to learn art works since he was young and helped his teacher to make art teaching media. It made he delighted and happy so much. He helped all teachers to arrange board, then he obtained colors equipment. Soon while he was making boards, his arms were weaken. He went back to rest and thought tomorrow will better. Unfortunately next day he could not moved his arms. He was depressed. All symptom started from legs before and then to arms. He felt tired and depressed. However he tried afford to draw by his mouth in order to make his younger sister laughed only. He thought there were some mistakes for drawing at first. He tired to learn technique and how to draw by mouth. Afterwards, he could do that. He created the way to use paintbrush. He tried to hold paint brush in the mouth tightly and moved by his neck. He could do it too. 28 At first he tried to draw circle, square and branch of tree. Although they were not so beautiful, but he could do it well. Finally he found solutions for his life. Teacher Thanong be happy for his art work even though other think it is a special way. He think it is so normal and is inspiration to create his loving works or most value for his life. This leads him to brighten way. He does his art works with his extremely fond. He does not create art works because he is in servitude situation. He offers kind advice for us that “If we think life is easy, everything will easy. But if we think it is hard, everything will hard. We try to live for the best today. At that time it was at night, he fell down from his motorcycle. Fortunately, he wore safety helmet. But his safety helmet was broken little. Because his kneecaps were broken, so he could not walk. He had to use walking stick practiced to walk near one year and had to get physical therapy then he could walk again. He said “While I was treated at hospital, I was easily moody and I needed to stay alone. I was abnormal that there was someone talked with me. Every time my mom took reasons to explain the true. Such as when I heard some voice, my mom told me did not interested it and should consulted mom and talked with her all time” Mother Kusumarn told that “When I knew my son was sick and should took time to cure for 10 years. I was frightened. However I thought if I did not strong, I could not look after him. I was conscious. I had to have strong mind and resolutions that I had to take care him till better. Because I was art teacher, so I taught him art science. At first I paid attention to make flower book in literature books to be nice like foreign book. So I taught him to make some flowers. He drew flower picture like kindergarten’s skill at first. “As the result of this, I knew he had problem with his brain. Because his ideas was diffused and not nice and orderly. I offer him the spirit power that some parts were good and some parts were not good, should revised again or should added development. But sometime he neglected art works suddenly and told me “I did not want to draw it” When his mood was better, he came back to do it again. Time passed 4 years old, his symptom was better. He could hear strange voice at eighth year. 30 Mother Kusumarn offer kind advice that “The rehabilitation for Psychiatry, Dysthymia, BiPolar, Brained Apoplexy and Autistic patients should take medicine follow doctor’s order. If we rehabilitate them in first step, they will recover quickly. The rehabilitation is talking with patients why they are sick. Because the patients do not know the reasons. The patients who are boring to take medicine and rest, that is symptom of the brain disorder and think be circle. When they obtain rehabilitation, they can find solution of their life. If we open the door, they can live happily”. Nowadays Mr. A draws the flower picture compose with the book named “The flowers in literature and distribute the first issue. Now it is popular and it is printing the second issue and third issue coming soon. His mother composed poetry and compose with the flowers in literature too.
