Item 101 – Public Comment There were no comments from the public. Item 105 - Girls State Volleyball Champs Administrators, along with School Board members, congratulated Coach Roxanne Paulsen and Assistant Coach Sarah Eicher along with the Girls Volleyball Team on their 3A State Championship State. These teachers have met rigorous standards through intensive study, expert evaluation, self-assessment and peer review. Iowa ranks in the top twenty-five states nationally in the number of National Board Certified teachers. Item 115 - Petition Presentation Referendum Committee tri-chairs, Greg Van Gorp, Doreen Zumwalt, and John Vernon were at the board meeting to present the petition calling for a special election for the purpose of building a new middle school. There were 180 signatures on the petition. Item 120 - OPN Presentation OPN Architects, Roger Worm, and Wes Reynolds, were in attendance at the board meeting to present a progress report on the plans for new science labs at the high school and a new middle school building. -----SERIES 200: OFFICERS - PRESIDENT - SECRETARY – TREASURER SERIES 200 INFORMATION ITEMS There were no informational items. -----SERIES 300: SUPERINTENDENT – NICHOLAS B. HOBBS SERIES 300 ACTION ITEMS Item 305 - IASB Board of Directors Exhibit 305.1 is a copy of the Iowa Association of School Boards official ballot, showing nominees Thomas Wieseler, Mt. Vernon Community Schools or Richard Clewell, Davenport Community Schools, for a three-year term on the IASB Board of Directors commencing January 2009. Motion by Director Bys to approve voting for Thomas Wiesler. Motion was seconded. Motion passed unanimously. Exhibit 305.1 Item 310 – MISD Resolutions: 1) Calling for Special Election Motion by Director Huntoon to approve the resolution calling for the special election to vote on the issue of $8,800,000 General Obligation School Bonds in order to provide funds to construct, build, equip and furnish a new middle school building. Motion was seconded. Motion passed unanimously. The election will be held on February 3rd from 12:00 to 8:00 p.m. 2) Approving Revenue Purpose Statement Motion by Director Huntoon to approve the Revenue Purpose Statement and ordering an election on a revenue purpose statement to authorize expenditures from the State of Iowa Secure an Advanced Vision for Education Fund. Motion was seconded. Motion passed unanimously. The election will be held on February 3 rd from 12:00 to 8:00 p.m. Exhibit 310.1-18 Item 320 - Music Department Trip Motion by Tribble to approve the March trip to Orlando, Florida, Walt Disney World, Cocoa Beach and Kennedy Space Center for 150 members of the Marion H.S. Music Department. Motion was seconded. Motion passed unanimously.
