Position Title: Transportation Mechanic Department: Administration

Classification: Non-Exempt Supervisor: Transportation Coordinator

SUMMARY:

This Transportation Mechanic will perform routine vehicle maintenance, emergency service and repair on all NMCS vehicles. Assist the Detail Shop person with scheduling the cleaning of the vans. May be required to assist with building and grounds maintenance as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High School graduate or G.E.D.

A two-year Maintenance Training program or comparable experience

Must have a valid Driver’s License and maintain a driving record acceptable to NMCS

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Regular reliable attendance and punctuality

Good communication skills, both verbal and written

Ability to work with other employees, departments and outside individuals in a positive, professional manner

Ability to work independently and manage time effectively

Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks and change priorities as needed to meet scheduled or unexpected deadlines

Perform vehicle maintenance to include but not limited to changing the oil and oil filter, lubricate chassis, brake jobs, wheel bearing and seals, 3 rd

member and transmission seals, mount balance and change tires, change light bulbs, minor body work, maintain wheelchair lifts as needed

Perform monthly inspection of all vehicles and mileage for service needed and compile an accurate list of necessary vehicle service. Schedule necessary work for the next month from the monthly inspection

Maintain an adequate inventory of tools, vehicles parts and required to maintain and service all NMCS vehicles and wheelchair lifts

Perform and record an annual inspection and maintenance on all NMCS vehicle wheelchair lifts

Vehicle maintenance and record keeping to ensure vehicles are serviced regularly and all required repairs are completed

Maintain records and receipts of all work done on vehicles and all detail records

Use tools in a safe and proper manner

Must have the ability to closely follow verbal and written directions

Ability to drive vehicles including 15 passenger vans

OTHER DUTIES:

Oversee the work of the detail shop

Coordinate vehicles usage and maintenance with the Transportation Coordinator or

Transportation Manager

Maintain a clean and orderly shop

Assist facilities maintenance personnel as needed

Other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

Must be able to lift and carry up to 70 pounds four times per hour

Ability to stand and walk on hard surfaces for periods of time up to three hours throughout an eight to ten hour day

Ability to stoop and bend at the knees and waist

Ability to reach across the body and to shoulder level and above

Drive various distances, both in the city and the mountain in all types of weather conditions.

Able to withstand exposure to various weather elements.

Vehicle cleaning chemicals and solutions, vehicle fluids and maintenance chemicals, automotive buffer, vacuum, pressure washer, automotive mechanical tools, floor jack, air tools, tire inflator, air ratchet and air impact wrench, electric tools, drill, saw, power hack saw, upholstery and carpet cleaning machine, grinder, hand tools, wheel barrow, shovel, hoe, rake and broom, bodywork tools, welder and cutting torch, telephone, time clock, 15 passenger vans, other vehicles, wheelchair lifts, pens, pencils, computer, cell phone, snow shovel.
