SENIOR TEAM 2015 - 26th Annual Marist Basketball Championships
On Sunday, 21 March the Senior Team headed to the annual Marist Basketball Carnival,
which was held in Perth, Western Australia. We had an early start leading into a 6 hour
Flight and arrived in Perth which would be home for the next week.
Overall the week was extremely successful with the team place 3rd at the end of the
championships. This result is our highest since 2012 and is especially pleasing as the
team is well placed for future success in 2016 with 7 yr11 students and 1 yr9 students
and 2 yr12's. The boys should be commended for their efforts competing in 8 games
over 4 days.
Game 1: against Marist Regional College Burnie it was an easy game for a superior
team Canberra winning 54 -36. Strong games by James Toohey 18 points, Pat Cross 8

headed back for some recovery that included a refreshing swim in the Indian Ocean.

one Marcellin did not get any smaller! Canberra losing 58 -32. James Toohey proving
hard to guard with 18 points - starting the game with 3 consecutive 3's forcing Marcellin
to face guard him for the remaining 3 quarters.
Game 8: Saw Canberra play off for 3rd and 4th against a tough team from Traralgon.
This didn't faze any Canberra boys with Sam De Sousa and Aidan Barnett playing in
their last game at the Marist championships. Nick abbot and Pat Cross stood up and did
not disappoint. Nick Abbot, Sam De Souza and Zac Maher stepped up in a physical
encounter. In the end they were too good for a young Canberra team winning 52- 32.
