Archaeology Department
Most of the items listed below are contained in plastic bags with seals such as are becoming
more frequently used (previously we stapled our clear plastic bags). The objects are then
placed in a box that once contained Multimedia 2-Channel Speakers (for use with desktop computers).
The documents are in a self-adhesive envelope (previously one would use those that needed
to be licked before sticking). The self-sticking envelopes do not retain their selfadhesiveness for long in Kimberley’s dry heat and so when posting a letter (no longer as
common a practice as before e-mail came to dominate our communications!), one often
needs to have a pot of glue to hand to make sure the self-sticking part sticks!.
Finally, this short description of the Archaeology Department’s contribution – a copy of which
is at the Museum – was typed on a desk-top PC (personal computer) in the Archaeology
Department in the Humanities Block, and printed on a printer-photocopier-fax machine
upstairs next to the Library.

understand to have been used both as cosmetic ad in ritual contexts in Stone
Age and other precolonial contexts. Its use is described by /Han≠kass’o in the
