Main areas of responsibility:
We are looking for a scientist within the AGRI4CAST action: ‘Crop Production Forecasts and Climate Change
Impact on Agriculture’.
AGRI4CAST runs operationally a Crop Forecasting System in order to provide timely crop production forecasts
at the European level. This system is able to monitor crop vegetation growth and include the short-term effects of
meteorological events on crop productions and provide forecasts on European crop yields. See examples of
operational bulletins issued in http://mars.jrc.it/marsstat/Bulletins/2008.htm.
The system is made of remote sensing and meteorological observations, agro-meteorological modeling (Crop
Growth Monitoring System, CGMS) and statistical analysis tools.
The main work will consist of:
- agro-meteorological data analysis on EU Member States, Candidate Countries and Neighbouring Countries
basing on the AGRI4CAST tools,
- issuing crop yield forecasts basing on statistical analyses;
- contributing to technical and research work carried out in the action; in particular contributing to the calibration
and extension of the crop growth models
2. Main qualifications :
The candidates must have a university degree (full cycle) in agriculture science or biology, with a strong
orientation towards crop modelling A Ph.D. degree in crop modeling or agro-meteorology is an asset. Experience
related to crop growth models in conjunction with programming skills is desirable.
3. Languages:
The main working language is English for which good writing skills are required.
