The Ohio Sheep and Wool Program (OSWP) has undergone a strategic planning process and has
concluded through that process that the most modern method of utilization of the funds is through
an RFP (Request for Proposals) process. The Ohio Sheep and Wool Program Board spent a great
deal of time in the development of this process and we are hopeful you’ll find it convenient.
OSWP is now accepting an RFP that will provide leadership, development, assistance and support in
implementing programs and projects that promote Ohio’s sheep, lamb, and wool industry and its
various products to the public and consumers. OSWP would also provide resources and services to
growers and retailers who market sheep, lamb and wool. Specifically, the OSWP board of directors
wishes to receive proposals regarding the following:

Programs which promote the expansion of the Ohio sheep industry, including, but not
limited to, educational and promotional programs. Programs may also be written which
coordinate with the American Sheep Industries “Let’s Grow with Two Plus” program.

Print and radio advertising.

Overall industry promotion and features, particularly with major print media in Ohio,
that would include, but not be limited to, the development and utilization of a media kit
and the development and distribution of news releases and photos.

Point of purchase materials, which may include but not be limited to, posters for sheep,
lamb and wool growers and retailers to utilize.

Opportunities for interaction with the public and consumers, which would include, but
not be limited to, events held during the key marketing times of the year (Christmas and
Easter).

Assist in the purchase of high quality flock genetic material (i.e., rams, ewes, semen,
embryos) that will stimulate growth in the Ohio and United States Sheep Industry. The
amount offered to each producer will be limited by the number of applicants that apply
for these check-off funds.

Assist Ohio Breed Associations in the growth, development, and implementation of
Youth Starter Flock and Youth Starter Flock Mentoring Programs. These Youth Starter
Flock programs should be designed to increase the number of commercial, purebred,
and club lamb sheep flocks in Ohio.

Advanced marketing strategies of purebred and club lamb segments of the Ohio sheep
industry.

Advanced marketing strategies of the commercial sheep segment of the Ohio sheep
industry.

Sheep, lamb, and wool research programs and projects, which could advance the
marketing and production opportunities for the Ohio sheep, lamb, and wool industries.

Sheep, lamb, and wool educational programs which could advance the Ohio sheep, lamb,
and wool industries.
