Travelling, going on holiday, means of transport Travelling is absolutely necessary for most of us. Without it we would not be able to go to schools, work, we could not visit our grandparents. Our shops would not have any goods. And we could not go on holidays. Public transportation also provides jobs for many people. There are several means of transport. All have their advantages and disadvantages. For example, cars are very fast but they are also quite dangerous. On the other hand, you have no time schedule and you are quite independent. Buses are clean but they are slow and even crowded on Fridays and Sundays. Trains are faster, but for most people in this country they are very expensive, so many people try to avoid them. They are not very clean, either. My favourite means of transport are bikes. They are ecological and very cheap. But you have to be strong to climb up big hills. I have never flown in a plane. I am afraid of that. I usually use buses to go to school. It takes me around 30 minutes to get to school, which is not too much. When I go on holidays, I prefer cars or trains. And when I want to have enough motion, I go by bike or on foot. I go on two summer holidays every year. With my friends and with my parents. We usually go to the High Tatras with my parents. We always stay in Ždiar, which is a small village in the High Tatras. We always have accomodation in privacy, it is much cheaper than hotels and you can prepare your own dishes in the kitchenette. From Ždiar we plan great trips to the mountains or to beautiful towns in Spiš. Spiš is a region near the Tatras. There are many important monuments and beautiful historical towns, such as Kežmarok, Levoča, Spišská Sobota or Stará Ľubovňa. But I like mountain tours best. There is a lot to admire in the High Tatras – wild flowers and animals, tarns and impressive peaks, villages with beautiful old wooden houses. It is a great region indeed. And I never find it boring, unlike many friends of mine, who hate spending holidays with their parents. With my friends we have similar holidays in the Czech Republic. But sometimes we did not sleep in houses, we sleep in tents or under the stars instead. It is good because it is cheap and you can see more interesting places than if you stayed in hotels. My favourite regions include the regions of Moravská Třebová, Boskovice, Frýdlant, Rýmařov, Jeseník and Šumperk. But I think that each corner of our country is beautiful if you can see the beauty. It is because there are many historical towns and cities in this country, as well as many historic monuments, such as castles and ruins, monasteries, churches and calvaries, and above all, there is a lot of interesting places in the countryside, rocks, caves, waterfalls, and many more. I love collecting souvenirs from holidays. I have quite a good collection of picture post cards. I also buy commemorative coins for my father when I have the opportunity. And above all, I collect Tourist stamps. They are made of wood, they are rounded and on them there is a carving of the place they represent. They cost 30 CZK each, which is quite expensive, but we save some money on accomodation, so I do not care. Tourist stamps are produced in Rýmařov, my home town. I also have many photos I take during the trips. I choose the best of them and my parents get a holiday photo album as a Christmas present every year.
