LISTEN
Choose a suitable place
Help the children build a prayer focus, using pictures and
drawings of friends, include a picture of Jesus and his friends
(see God’s Story CD). Open God’s Story 1 at pages 32-33
friendship bracelets (can be made from sticky paper or thread)
Teacher lights the candle
 Hold hands in a circle of friendship and sing an appropriate verse
of Thank you for friends’ (31) from Rejoice One (or something
similar).
 Read whichever scripture story from the topic the children like best
RESPOND
Prayer of thanks: A prayer to listen to or join in with. Response: ‘Thank
you, God!’
For friends who sit by me

Let the children take a friendship bracelet to wear as the symbol of being

drape, petal or flower shapes with kind words on them, rough shapes with
unkind words.

Sing a song ‘We’ve a Friend’ (52), ‘Fill Us With Your Gift’ (50)
‘With All My Heart (48), ‘Patching Up a Quarrel’ (51) all from
Rejoice One. Or something similar

Role play an incident which breaks friendship, consider the
feelings, then role play making up and think about the good
feelings
LISTEN
Isaiah 58: 9-11, after hearing that put the unkind in the bin and make
flower shapes out of the kind words
RESPOND
Quiet reflective music

Think of times they have spoilt a friendship

Offer the children the opportunity to say sorry in their hearts

Say together:
Dear God,
I’m sorry for the times I’ve not been friends with someone;
Times when I’ve shouted, screamed or snatched something.
I’m sorry for the times I wouldn’t play or wouldn’t let someone else
play.
I’m glad when I make friends again.
This could be on the white board

Everyone place their stone near the prayer focus to form a bridge

Quietly reflect on the message of the reading and think about
what they may have to be sorry about.
