During class students will: Assess their Deg Xinag understanding and speaking skills at the beginning and end of the term. Watch and hear fluent speakers converse. Build an individual phrase list based on personal interests by asking speakers for Deg Xinag phrases; converse with class participants using basic conversational phrases. Develop pronunciation skills by repeating words and phrases with prompts from fluent speakers, through individual practice and/or group practice with other learners/community members. Discover grammatical rules by recognizing patterns, then stating and testing hypotheses. Learn to use the online Deg Xinag learners’ dictionary: Deg Xinag Ałixi Ni’elyoy. Learn to use the online Deg Xinag stories: Deg Xiyan’ Xidhoy. Grading system: 50% participation in class sessions. (15 class-hours = 1 credit. One class hour = 50 minutes.) 34.5 - 37.5 class-hours = A 30 – 34.4 class-hours = B 26.25 – 29.9 class-hours = C 22.5 – 26.24 class-hours = D 50% individual project.
