Translation is not merely conveying words in another language. More importantly, it means
reproducing a source text customised for the target readership within its cultural context while living
up to the idiosyncrasies of the particular subject matter.
Out of a keen interest and passion for language and translation I have completed a Bachelor’s
degree in translation and interpreting specialising in scientific translation. The main sub disciplines
covered were Medicine, Chemistry, Physics, Astronomy, Biology and Geology. Furthermore I have
taken additional courses in Engineering, Technology and Law. In order to broaden my areas of
expertise I then opted for a Master’s degree in Audiovisual Translation, including a module on
Localisation, at Roehampton University, London. Both degrees helped me fine-tune my translational
skills to an academic and professional level. Focusing on the field of science translation and on
audiovisual translation equipped me with the tools and methodology necessary to work myself into
different highly specialised fields. Strategically acquiring the relevant principles and the background
knowledge of a certain discipline now enables me to efficiently tap into new sectors of translation
and localisation as well as to consolidate and broaden my expertise in already familiar areas.
As a freelance translator, subtitler and proof-reader I have gained valuable work experience
collaborating with direct clients, translation agencies and fellow translators.
