Ch. 2 Constellation Project Part I Choose a constellation for which you will do a report on. For the TYPED report (at least one page) you will need the following: The myth or history of your constellation’s origin (you can choose one culture or compare myths from the same or different cultures) The dates that it is best viewed from our location (in the Northern Hemisphere) The location in the sky on our current date (Use The Sky program) Names of any common (bright) stars (Arabic names) AND their Greek letter designation Add as many other objects/phenomenon that are nearby/within it as you can A drawing or map (hand drawn!) of your constellation (at LEAST 8.5 x 11 in.) A bibliography of your sources for the assignment. Part II Create your own constellation from your assigned quadrant using only BRIGHT stars For this TYPED report (at least one page) you will need the following: The myth or history of your constellation’s origin Your myth MUST explain some natural phenomenon or occurrence The dates that it is best viewed from a location A drawing or map of your constellation (at LEAST 8.5 x 11 in.) Part III Presentation: (2-5 minutes) You will quickly review the highlights of your assignment to give the rest of the class a little background on different constellations and the myth of your created constellation. Tell the class about cool objects/phenomenon that are nearby/within its borders Show off the TWO drawings of your constellations on the document camera (TV).
