Missmer, ScD MISSION The Division is a dedicated team of academic physicians, embryologists, nurses, social workers, physician assistants, secretaries and other administrative personnel whose core mission is helping patients build healthy families in a fulfilling work environment that is conducive to innovative research and teaching. Quality patient care is our central mission and patient satisfaction our number one priority. ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN 2007-2008 Performed 748 surgeries and saw 8,957 patients. New electronic medical record for IVF and ovulation induction cycles. Completed initial planning for new IVF lab and surgical suite in the Brigham Research Institute to be built on Mass Mental Hospital site. Dr. Mark Hornstein: served as President of SART (Society for Assisted Reproductive Technologies), was nominated for the APGO Excellence in Teaching Award and received the RESOLVE 2008 Hope Award for Advocacy from the National Infertility Association. Dr. Elizabeth Ginsburg: served as President-Elect for SART, to serve as President in 20082009 and named Associate Director of the Division. Dr. Stacey Missmer: named President of the Research Council for the Endometriosis Association and nominated for the Harvard Medical School Young Mentor Award. RESEARCH AND EDUCATION Gave annual postgraduate education programs in reproductive medicine and surgery with >90% of participants rating it above average or superior to other courses. 2nd year residents participated in our service and medical students from Harvard and other schools in the US and abroad spent several weeks with us. Matched Dr. Shruthi Mahalingaiah from the BWH-MGH residency program and Dr. Brooke Rossi from the University of Rochester as the new fellows starting July, 2008. Dr. Raymond Anchan: awarded the Expanding the Boundaries Grant, recipient of the ASRM/EMD Serono Research Grants in Reproductive Medicine and Women’s Reproductive Health Research (WRHR) Career Development Program/NIH. Drs. Brian Walsh and Adam Griffin: awarded the Resident Teaching Award in Reproductive Medicine. Faculty and fellows presented 18 abstracts: Drs. Antonio Gargiulo and Serene Srouji received Second Prize for Technical Achievement in Video; for Nursing, Sherilyn Levy and Bonnie M. Campbell gave an oral presentation at the 2007 ASRM annual meeting: The Men’s Lounge Improvement Project. What Do Men Really Want? ASSISTED REPRODUCTIVE TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM The ART Program, under the leadership of Dr. Elizabeth Ginsburg and laboratory Director Dr. Catherine Racowsky, continued to provide superior clinical results: IVF physicians managed 1,718 assisted reproduction cycles.
