VELIKOYE
part of the workplace culture, women
often give gifts to their male coworkers.
International Women's Day,
Fatherland Defender’s Day is
celebrated on February 23. It is a day
of the Armed Forces of the Russian
Federation. The holiday was established
in 1918.
Officially, as the name suggests,
the holiday is celebrated by people who
are serving or were serving for
the Russian Armed Forces (both men
and women), but unofficially, nationally
it also includes the celebration of men
as a whole, and exists as a counterpart
of International Women's Day on
March 8.
The holiday is celebrated with
parades and processions in honor of
veterans, and women also give small
gifts to their men, especially husbands
(or boyfriends), fathers and sons. As a
originally called International Working
Women's Day, is marked on March 8.
In different regions the focus of the
celebrations ranges from general
celebration of respect, appreciation and
love towards women to a celebration of
women's economic, political, and social
achievements. In some regions, the day
lost its political flavor, and became
simply an occasion for men to express
their love for women in a way somewhat
similar to a mixture of Mother's
Day and Valentine's Day.
A treasure of ancient
coins
A mistery of
Assumption cathedral
City officials decided to restore
the Cathedral of the Assumption.
Archaeological excavations found there
a mass grave of ancient people. These
people died a violent death.
Administration and pharmaceutical
companies assisted the excavation.
According to anthropologists, the
people buried there were Slavs.
Archaeologists have found many things :
Stained glass, copper coin with the
inscription " pulo Yaroslavl" , bronze and
silver coins , a fragment of a lead seal
of Prince Yaroslav, women pendants,
bracelets and plenty of glass ,
arrowheads , household ceramics.
In early August 2013 during
archaeological excavations in Yaroslavl
region, near Rybinsk, a treasure of
ancient silver coins was uncovered. The
discovery was made at some distance
from the village Ust-Sheksna. 48 Arab
dirhams and 6 fragments of old money
were kept for centuries in a small clay
pot in the ground. Scientists found
artifacts from X century. It is the
biggest treasure, which was found in
the region of archaeological
expeditions.
Archaeological research in
Timerevo
Timerevo is an archaeological
place near the village Big Timeryavo
seven kilometers southwest far from
Yaroslavl. Archaeological research
started in XIX century there. The
complex has been explored for more
than a hundred years. Here
archaeologists found a trading stock
with scales and weights. Archaeologists
have found swords, battle-axes, spears,
arrows and fragments of chains. They
have uncovered also some bone
products such as combs, needles, and
buttons. Still archaeologists have found
three treasure Arab coins, a woman’s
knife with a silver wire on its handle.
This complex is still keeping many
interesting findings for archaeological
research.
Do you remember this joyful
excitement, when having woken up in
the childhood, suddenly you find out,
that everything around is white? It’s a
wonderful feeling like being in a fairytale. This is the time for winter
entertainments: skiing, skating,
sledging, playing snowballs etc.
Sledge and snow are inseparable.
Small children think up different
amusing ways of driving.
It is possible to ride from a hill
not only on a sledge - for this purpose
perfectly are suitable, for example,
tires from cars, or a piece of linoleum.
Students from our Velikoselsky
school found out other enjoyable kinds
of entertainments. Pupils of 6 classes
had a wonderful day out in a forest
near school #3 in Gavrilov-Yam, where
they took part in a laser tag
competition. Parents made fire and
arranged barbecue.
On February 14th senior classes
of Velikoselsky school went skiing
around historical places of the village:
the White Pond, the Red Pond, an
educational institution Velikoselsky
Agricultural College. Next to the Black
Pond Velikoselsky school is located. So
students decided to arrange a skiing
tour around these places. They went
over the White Pond. It was very
beautiful. Also they went through
Velikoselsky Park. Some years ago
various activities were arranged in this
park. It was a place for entertainment.
Big swings were there. But now it is
unfortunately empty and quiet, but full
of litter. After that students headed
towards the school. We took a lot of
amazing pictures. We were tired, but
happy. We enjoyed the tour very much.
Now we look forward to the next our
historical travelling tour, in
spring.
