Desirable for maintenance workers in multifamily housing, painters and other tradesmen, homeowners, residential real estate managers and managers of child-care facilities. Course Description Hours Credential Supports/ Materials/Supplies This course presents the guidelines of Occupational Safety Health & Administration designed for anyone involved in the construction industry. Specifically devised for crew workers; the program provides complete information on OSHA compliance issues. OSHA recommends program as an orientation to occupational safety health for workers covered by OSHA 29 CFR 1926. Two-day program includes Site & Job Safety Issues; Work Hazards; Work Gear & Fall Protection; Working in Enclosed Spaces. The guidelines are to be followed by construction workers on all sites which are visited and controlled periodically by OSHA inspectors. The course includes the following sections: Introduction to OSHA, Electrical Safety/Control of Hazardous Energies, Fall Protection, Scaffolds, Cranes and Rigging, Trenching and Excavations, Fire Prevention, Permit-Required Confined Space Entry, Materials Handling, Power Tool Use and Guarding, Stairways and Ladders EPA’s Renovation, Repair and Painting Final Rule (40 CFR 745) requires that as of April 22, 2010, renovations conducted for compensation must be performed by Certified Firms using Certified Renovators. EPA requires that firms performing renovation, repair, and painting projects that disturb leadbased paint in pre-1978 homes, child care facilities and schools be certified by EPA and that they use certified renovators who are trained by EPAapproved training providers to follow lead-safe work practices. The RRP course teaches contractors and others how to use lead-safe work practices and follow these three simple procedures: Contain the work area minimize dust, and clean up thoroughly. The 8-hour course includes 8 Modules: 1. Why lead-based paint is a problem during renovations. 2. Regulations: What the EPA regulations require of Certified Firms and Certified Renovators. 3. Before Beginning Work: Teaches how to determine if lead-based paint affects your work, and how to educate owners and residents in target housing, or owners and adult representatives in child-occupied facilities about how the work will affect lead in their property. This module also discusses how to plan the work so that it is lead safe. 4. Contain Dust During Work: Teaches how to properly set up the work area so that dust and debris created by your work do not contaminate the property and leave behind lead dust. 5. During the Work: Teaches how to work in a lead-safe manner and what practices are prohibited by the EPA and/or HUD rules; provides 10 hrs over 2 days OSHA 10 card: A qualifying test is administered by the certified teacher at the end of the course. The U.S. Department of Labor, OSHA, issues an official, numbered card valid for 5 years from the date of issuance. Cleaning Activities and Checking Your Work: Teaches how to effectively clean up dust generated by the work performed in the home or childoccupied facility, and teaches Certified Renovators how to conduct a cleaning verification. This section also contains information about how to dispose of renovation waste. 7. Recordkeeping: Teaches the requirements in the EPA and HUD Rules for creating and maintaining documentation of the work. 8. Training Non-Certified Renovation Workers: Teaches the Certified Renovator how to train non-certified renovation workers in lead safe practices while on the job. There is a hands-on component of the course demonstrating containment, specialized work tools and equipment and personal protection equipment. Refresher Course Lead Abatement Supervisor Required yearly for license renewal The Lead Supervisor Refresher Training will comply with the CT DPH Standard 20-440 requirements. This course includes a review and discussion of changes and interpretation of applicable state and federal laws, regulations, policies and guidelines. The development and changes in stateof-the art procedures and equipment will also be discussed along with a review of key areas of the initial lead abatement supervisor training. The students will receive a certificate that they should send to the CT Department of Public Health with their renewal application. The certificate is valid 1-year maximum, the time-frame in which the student should apply for renewal.
