1. Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the
university. Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division
which reflects the position in it as well as those supervised in the department. (This section is

The Physician/Medical Director, Mojave Adult, Child and Family Services, performs clinical and
administrative management duties at the Mojave Adult, Child and Family Services (MACFS) in Reno
or Las Vegas which is under the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences (PCHY)at the
University of Nevada, School of Medicine (UNSOM). Responsibilities of the position include
evaluation and treatment of patients at MACFS outpatient clinics, administrative management, and
teaching duties as assigned.
2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. Provide
enough detail to enable a person outside the department to understand the job (percentage

50% - Evaluation and Treatment of Patients
 Perform the duties typically associated with a physician in an outpatient setting to include:
o Patient examination and evaluation
o Diagnosing and treatment of psychiatric illnesses
o Ordering and interpreting tests
o Documentation of clinical activities
o Other related duties
5% - Nursing and Medical Students and Residents Training and Supervision
 Supervise nurses in the delivery of patient care in collaboration with Director of Nursing
 Oversight of teaching assignments to medical staff
 Train Medical Residents and Students on an individual and/or small group basis as assigned
45% - Administration and Management
 Collaborate with the MACFS management team in program development and establishment of
policy and procedure
 Utilization review and quality assurance activities to include peer review and billing/coding
compliance
 Hiring, supervision, and performance evaluation of Mojave staff and contract physicians
 Monitoring and review of all sentinel events in the psychiatric clinic, including mortality review
 Oversight of consumer relations in the psychiatric clinic, including consumer satisfaction
surveys and resolution of grievances.
 Monitoring of staff productivity and clinical outcome data
 Serve as liaison to outside organizations for clinical contracts and collaborative projects.
3. Describe the level of freedom to take action and make decisions with or without
supervision and how the results of the work performed impact the department, division and/or
the university as a whole.
Level of Freedom:
The incumbent has considerable latitude for independent clinical action, establishes procedures and
priorities, and is evaluated on short- and long-term clinical outcomes and adherence to accepted
standards of clinical care. Administrative and management duties will be performed in collaboration
with the Mojave management team under the supervision of the Mojave Director and Chief
Operations Officer.

Impact:
Accurate and complete performance of the clinical job duties associated with this position is crucial to
patient health. Failure to perform as expected could result in substandard patient care. The Physician
must take initiative and use own judgment in conducting his/her clinical responsibilities. The individual
is expected to provide leadership in the performance of the responsibilities of the position in order to
ensure the success and credibility of the clinic’s work and the reputations of MACFS, UNSOM, and
the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE).

Knowledge of:
 Medical education obtained by completing an LCME accredited medical school and an
ACGME accredited residency in family medicine, psychiatry or similar discipline, or a program
with a similar level and intensity of training
 General medical care across the lifespan with expertise in the treatment of psychiatric
disorders.
 State and federal laws, with particular emphasis on physician-patient relationships and
regulations related to the practice of medicine
 Student development theory and methodology and factors contributing to excellence in
teaching.

residency in psychiatry.

MD/DO and four years of experience as a physician with at least three years in a
mental health center or comparable health care delivery environment and one year in a
supervisory role
