We will offer three debate formats: Public Forum, featuring 4 rounds of debate of public forum debate and 3 rounds of policy debate and world/parliamentary debates. Judges’ training will be available for individuals interested in judging public forum, policy, and parliamentary debates. Judging Assignment Each school must provide one judge for every four teams competing. There will be judge training for new/inexperienced judges. Providing a judge for training may also count toward fulfillment of your judging assignment. Judges must check in on the morning of the tournament by 9:00am, the latest. TOPICS Public Forum: February 2015 Topic – Resolution: On balance, economic globalization benefits worldwide poverty reduction. Policy Debate NSDA 2014-2015 Topic: Oceans – Resolution: The United States federal government should substantially increase its non-military exploration and/or development of the Earth’s oceans. Parliamentary/Worlds Debate This House believes the Common Core does more harm than good. This House believes that police officers should be required to wear body cameras. (INTELLIGENCE SQUARED COMMUNITY TOPIC): This House believes that America is on the decline. LATE ARRIVAL POLICY Once check-in closes (at 9:00am) – late arrivals will forfeit the first round and will debate round 2 (even if only late by a few minutes). During round 1, late arrivals should observe and flow debates. We must emphasize this rule in order to have an efficient, timely and well-managed tournament. Please oblige to this request. AWARDS Speaker points will be on the scale of 30 points. We will provide awards for top speakers, top teams and sweepstakes for top schools. Sweepstakes will be calculated based on the school’s top 5 team entries.
