Mandatory Travel Preparation - Ghana Internship 2014
1. Yellow Fever Vaccination
You must get the Yellow Fever Vaccination and bring the proof of it with you to Ghana. You
should receive a yellow document as proof of the vaccination. If you do not bring proof of
your Yellow Fever Vaccination, you may not be allowed to board the plane to Ghana or you
may be turned away at Immigration.
2. Recommended Vaccinations
Vaccination appointments should be made as soon as possible. Here is the list of
recommendation vaccinations. Please
 Anti-Malarial Medications
 Hepatitis A
 Typhoid
 Routine Vaccinations (should be up to date)

2. Visa to Enter Ghana
All volunteers will need to apply for a visa to enter Ghana. You can learn more at this
website: http://www.ghanavisahouston.com/
Global Brigades strongly recommend that you apply for your visa through the Ghana
Consulate in Houston, Texas. You can also apply through an office in Washington, D.C., but
they have been knows to lose passports.
Directions:
1. Check to see that your passport will be valid for six months after entering Ghana. If not,
you will need to renew your passport.
2. Print out your flight itinerary, which you will receive once we have booked flights.
3. Print out two copies of the “Application for Ghana Entry Permit/Visa” and fill it out in
capital letters. The application can be found at
http://www.ghanaembassy.org/uploads/files/Visa_Application_Form.pdf.
4. Gather the supplemental documents. Each application must be sent with all required
documents at the same time or it will be rejected. Supporting documents include:
 2 identical passport-size photographs taken within the last three months glued
onto each application form
 Proof of return flight ticket (for tourist visas only)
 Original valid passport
 Letter of invitation from Global Brigades (See attached letter)

You will be applying as a tourist, which is different from the Student Visa, but for
Profession/Occupation you may put “Student”.

5. Place all required documents, application forms, the application fee, and a prepaid return
envelope together in a trackable envelope (i.e. Fedex) so that your passport may be
returned. For a single entry visa the fee is $60, and for an expedited single entry $100.
Payment must be made in the form of cashier's check, money order, or certified bank
check made payable to the Embassy of Ghana. Personal checks and cash are not
accepted. Money orders may be purchased at most U.S. post offices.
6. Send the application packet to the Ghana Embassy via a trackable envelope. Overnight
delivery is recommended anytime you are sending sensitive original documents, such as a
passport, in the mail. Send the packet to:

As the Country Director for Global Brigades Ghana (Registration Number D.S.W. /4788), I
