CHANGES TO SPECTRUM ALLOCATIONS FOR THE
PROGRAMME-MAKING AND SPECIAL EVENTS SECTOR
The Radiocommunications Agency announced on 23 December 2002 some
changes to the spectrum that is made available for use by programme-makers
and for special events.
2500 to 2690 MHz
Following the recent decision by the Electronic Communications Committee of the
European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations about
the spectrum allocated for the expansion of IMT 2000, this spectrum will cease to
be available for programme-making assignments after 31 December 2006. This
date will be reviewed in summer 2004, in the context of developments in the UK
mobile industry.
2025 to 2110 MHz paired with 2200 to 2290 MHz
With effect from 1 January 2003, this spectrum will be made available to the
programme-making and special events sector for use with digital technology.
This allocation is made subject to arrangements with other Government
departments and on a non-interference basis to Space Science Services.
JFMG Ltd, the body responsible on behalf of the Radiocommunications Agency
for managing and licensing the programme-making spectrum, has been informed
of these decisions. JFMG will take forward the details of how this spectrum will be
made available for individual assignments.
