Narrator: This is a melodrama. Our story takes place in the lovely and charming
little village of Friendly Gables.
Anna
Narrator: Yes, Friendly Gables, where the air is pure, life is simple, and the
people are either very good or very bad! All it takes is a good story to tell the
difference.
TJ
Narrator:
This is a story about Neil Truehart, the sweet and innocent heroine.
(MUSIC)

Nell: Ahh!

Narrator:
And the mean and evil villain, Nasty Colfax
Nasty:
(Twirling moustache) Ahhhhhhh!

Narrator: The true-blue, always kind and courteous do-a-good-deed-daily hero is
Bruce Goodguy.
(MUSIC)

Bruce:Ahhh!
Narrator: And adding to those characters is the representative of law and
order, truth and justice, courage and just plain grit, the sheriff of Friendly Gables,
Oliver Badge.
(MUSIC)

Oliver:
Awwww!
Narrator: To supply a little local color, we have the members of the Friendly
Gables Helping Hands Society.
Members:
(giggling and buzzing) Ah!! Ah!
Geddon
Narrator: As we move… As we move…. AS WE MOVE MEMBERS, PLEASE!
(Members freeze)
As we move into the thickening plot, we note that everyone in the quiet and
peaceful little town of Friendly Gables loves our heroine, Nell.
Members:
Ahhhh!
AJ
Narrator:
And Nell, of course, loves everyone in Friendly Gables.
Narrator:
But especially she loves Bruce Goodguy, our hero.
(William)
Bruce:
(Enters carrying an ax) Ahhhhhh!
(Aoife)
Nell: Ahhhhh! (They hold hands)
Julia
Evan
Narrator: Our hero is a poor woodcutter who must work long, hard hours to
support his poor, sick mother.
(William)
Bruce:Aha! (Shoulders ax, marches offstage)
(Aoife)
Nell: (sobbing, running after Bruce) Ahh!
(William)
Bruce:(puts ax down, raises hand to stop her) Ahhh!
Piper
Narrator: Brave Bruce loves his work, and one day he will have enough money to
enable him and our heroine to get married and live happily ever after.
David
Narrator: Meanwhile, enters the villain, Nasty Colfax, known to everyone,
including his mother, as “NASTY.”
(MUSIC)
(Riley)
Nasty:
(To narrator) Ah!
Fran
Narrator: He is looking for a way to discredit poor Bruce forever and leave
sweet Nell free to marry someone else, namely Him!
Summer
Narrator: Suddenly, he spies our noble Bruce’s ax. He knows his long-awaited
opportunity has arrived.
(Riley)
Nasty:
(picks up ax) Aha!
Jacob
Scene 2
Narrator: Now let us pause for a few seconds to allow for the passage of several
hours. We take up our story again early the next day.
TJ
Narrator: As the good people of Friendly Gables wake up to a brand new morning,
we are shocked to hear wails of suffering.
Members:
(carrying branches of trees) Augh-h-h!
Emily
Narrator: SOME EVILDOER CHOPPED DOWN EVERY TREE IN THE VILLAGE
WHILE THE CITIZENS SLEPT PEACEFULLY IN THEIR LOVELY HOMES!
Robbie
Narrator: No one knows whom to suspect of such an evil act, until evidence
points to our poor woodchopper, Bruce Goodguy!
(William)
Bruce:Eh ????
Members:
(pointing at Bruce) Ah-ha!!
Lilly
Narrator:
Immediately the town’s fine, law-upholding sheriff is called.
(Zack)
Oliver:
(puts handcuffs on Bruce) Ah-h-h!
Nicholas
(Aoife)
Anna
Narrator: Although the sheriff doesn’t really think the nice Bruce has done such
a mean deed, he must do his duty. Our luckless hero is taken off to jail!
Nell: (shocked and upset) Ahhhh!
Narrator: Meanwhile, Nasty sees opportunity knocking and tries to win over our
lovely heroine. He tries to console her in her hour of grief.
(Riley)
Nasty:
(Aoife)
Nell: (cries on his shoulder)
AJ
(patting Nell on the shoulder) Ah-h-h!
Narrator: Nell, even in her sadness has enough presence of mind to note that
the shoes of Nasty are coated with mud-the same kind of mud where trees once
grew!
( Riley)
Nasty:
(Shaking fist at Narrator) Ahhhhhh!
(Aoife)
Nell: (looking at Nasty’s boots) Ah!
Julia
Narrator:
“YOU CHOPPED DOWN THOSE TREES!” Nell accuses Nasty.
(Riley)
Nasty:
(Grabs Nell and shakes her) Arr-r-r-r-r!
Evan
Narrator: But Oliver Badge, the good and wise sheriff, is suspicious from the
very beginning. He has confidence in our hero, Bruce Goodguy.
(MUSIC)
(William)
Bruce:(pulls Nell away from nasty) Aha!
David
Narrator:
Piper
Narrator: So, in the end, Nasty Colfax gets his just desserts. Also the Friendly
Gables Helpings Hands Society decided to hold a quilting bee that will raise enough
money to support Bruce’s mother for the rest of her life.

(William)
And together they catch Nasty red-handed.
(sewing, humming) Ah-h-hi,-m-m-m!
Narrator:
And now Bruce and Nell can get married and live happily ever after.
Bruce: (moving to Nell) Ah-h-h!
(Aoife) Nell:
(taking Bruce’s hands) Ahh-hh!
Members:
(sighing) Ah-h-h-!
(Zack)
Oliver:
(entering with Nasty) Aw-w-w-w!
(Riley)
Nasty:
Ahhhhhhh!

Narrator:
And that, my good audience, is the end.
