ZONE RUN QUALIFYING EVENTS FOR STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS The Zone runs Qualifying competitions for members wishing to represent the Zone at State Championship Events. * Flat / Musical Ride & Games (incorporating Pope,Nash & Reg Rowbottom Cups) * Dressage & Showjumping * Inter Zone Teams Challenge * Horse Trials FLAT / MUSICAL RIDE & GAMES: The State Championships are normally held in June, with the Zone Qualifying Day held in April. This day incorporates the Pope Cup, Barbara Nash Cup & the Reg Rowbottom Cup. FLAT RIDE/COLONEL POPE CUP: BARBARA NASH CUP: Teams of 4 riders ride a flat test, then as pairs ride a test, then again as a team of 4 ride an unrehearsed ride. The riders must be 25 yrs & under. The winners of this ride are awarded the Colonel Pope Cup, & if qualified the right to represent the Zone at the Championships. Clubs must nominate whether they wish to qualify for the Championships & enter both the Flat & Pope Cup ride or enter either one. Information & Tests are sent out from P.C.A.V. State Council. Teams of 4 riders, 14 yrs & under who ride a flat test supplied by the Zone. This event is not a qualifier for the State Championships. Riders in this event can compete in the Flat Ride, but must ride under the conditions as listed above. This test must be called. REG ROWBOTTOM CUP: This is a pairs ride for members 12yrs & under. It is designed to give the younger riders an opportunity to “have a go” before moving up to the Barbara Nash Cup. This is not a qualifier for the State Championships. This test must be called. MUSICAL RIDE: A team of 4 riders, 25yrs & under ride their own drill to music. Costumes are encouraged, but there is to be no enchancements to horses legs. Tests must go for 4 minutes, but less than 8. Teams supply their own music in the form of a C.D. Clubs must nominate if they want to qualify for the State Championships GAMES: Teams of 7 riders compete in a set of games as prescribed by P.C.A.V. Full instructions are sent directly to Club Secretary’s. Clubs must nominate if they want to qualify for the State Championships. Clubs who cannot field a team of 7, can enter their members, who will be put in a composite team if sufficient numbers warrant. They will not be eligible to qualify for the State Championships. ******************************************************************************************* DRESSAGE & SHOWJUMPING : The State championships are held in February, with the Zone Qualifying Day held in December. DRESSAGE: Grades 1, 2, & 3 Riders compete in 2 dressage tests, with the scores being tallied in regard to placings. Riders in Gr 1 compete at State Championships individually, Riders in Grades 2 & 3 ride as a team of 3. SHOWJUMPING: Grades A, B, & C Riders compete in a number of jumping competitions, with points being allocated for placings in each event, then totalled for overall placings Riders in A grade ride individually at State Championships, riders in B & C grade ride as a team of 4 The above events are open to all members, but they must nominate if they want to qualify for the State Championships The Zone also run a FUND RAISER section for Grade 4 Dressage, as well as D & E grade showjumping, depending on numbers. HORSE TRIALS STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS This Event is hosted by each of the Ten Zones on a rotational basis, usually in May. This is a three-phase competition, comprising dressage, showjumping & cross country. Only riders in Gr 1 & 2 are eligible to compete. Due to a lack of rider numbers from our Zone, we do not run Qualifying Days as such, but riders must have successfully completed 2 O.D.E.’s. INTER-ZONE TEAMS HORSE TRIAL: This event is conducted at Werribee Park in May. The Zone sends teams of 4 riders from Grades 3 & 4 to compete in the three phases of this event. Riders must qualify by successfully completing 2 O.D.E.’s and send an expression of interest form to the Zone Representative. ALL RIDERS WHO WISH TO COMPETE AT STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS, WHO HAVE BEEN IN PONY CLUB FOR MORE THAN TWO YEARS AND IS AGED 13YRS & OVER MUST HAVE THEIR “C” CERTIFICATE. *************************************************************************************** CLUBS THROUGHOUT THE ZONE ARE EXPECTED TO PROVIDE HELPERS TO RUN THESE EVENTS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THEY HAVE MEMBERS COMPETING OR NOT.
