FURNITURE MATTERS Job Description – Driver 1. To work as part of a small team to ensure the Bulky Matters’ partnership service is delivered to targets and timescale 2. To professionally drive Bulky Matters 7.5 tonne vehicles on a daily basis, adhering to all legislative requirements, including speed limits, correct use of tacho, etc 3. To adhere to all Furniture Matters’ specific rules and procedures regarding the driving and management of the organisation’s vehicle fleet 4. To liaise closely with Furniture Matters’ Transport Manager and the relevant Council’s Vehicle Maintenance Unit in order to ensure the project’s vehicles are safe, properly maintained and in good working order at all times 5. To instruct and supervise paid crew, volunteers, trainees and placement workers in respect of operational tasks whilst out on the Bulky Matters’ vehicles 6. To follow and adhere to an agreed daily collection schedule - collecting items from individual householder’s addresses as per the schedule 7. To collect bulky items from both within and outside people’s houses - using great care when handling and loading items to ensure customer satisfaction and maximising re-use potential 8. To label each individual item as they are collected, assisting the crew member to complete collection paperwork whilst at customer’ properties – thus ensuring items can be tracked back to both the individual household and to the local authority area 9. To promptly assess each item’s suitability for reuse, recycling or disposal upon collection, and consequently load the vehicle as appropriate 10. To offer a high level of customer service to members of the public whilst collecting items 11. To be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of the project’s vehicles - completing basic checks and keeping the vehicle clean and cab tidy on a daily basis 12. To work as part of a team with other paid staff whilst working at various warehouse locations, helping to sort collected items for either re-use, recycling or waste disposal 13. To assist in liaising with local re-use organisations in order to ensure that the maximum number of re-usable items are passed on to them 14. To actively identify suitable reusable items that can be sold via Furniture Matters’ retail outlets or via Blackpool Social Fund 15. To accurately enter information into a computerised stock control database system on a daily basis – booking items in and out, producing barcodes and labelling, etc 16. To ensure information is accurately recorded and relevant paperwork is completed for updating and database processing 17. To process all Social Fund orders, selecting items, requesting new stock, loading vans and competing deliveries with finalisation of all paperwork and database entries. 18. To handle all residual waste materials as per agreed health & safety procedures and legislative requirements 19. To regularly work one ot two evenings per week and all day on a Saturday (rota basis) in order to cover operations 20. To work from bases in Blackpool and Lancaster – as required 21. To undertake all required administration in relation to this post to an agreed standard, including producing regular reports, records and statistics as required 22.
