UNIVERSITY OF PUNE
The University of Pune is located in Pune, the educational capital of India. It has a reputation
as a leading center for research and is rated among the top 10 universities in India. The university
was established more than 100 years ago, and has offered engineering programs since 1949. This
includes the Bachelors and Masters programs in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Electronics and
Telecommunication and Metallurgical Engineering and Bachelors programs in Automobile, Chemical,
Computer, Industrial, Instrumentation, Polymer and Petroleum Engineering.
Our University houses IUCAA (Inter University for Astronomy), the pioneer research institute
in Asia, and NCRA, (National Center for Radio Astronomy), which is currently engaged in the GMRT
(Giant Meter wave Radio Telescope) project, the largest of its kind in the world.
The Center for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC), which has indigenously
developed the “Param Supercomputer”, is another asset of the university.
Our University is recognized by the University Grant Commission (UGC) to develop Audio and
Video aided information films on subjects of varied interests, via its Audio Video Research Center
(AVRC) and Electronic Media Research Center (EMRC).
Each academic year has two semesters with examinations at the end of each semester. The
results of each academic year are based on the average of the performance in both the semesters.
The medium of instruction is English.
The University of Pune is only the second university in India, which has acquired a US patent
(No. 6204670) for a technique devised to measure and monitor moisture in materials in a fraction of
second.
The campus of the university is spread over an area of 411 acres and it is set sylvan
surroundings with its 41 postgraduate departments. There are more that 200 affiliated colleges more
than 100 recognized research institutes affiliate to University of Pune. The University of Pune has 159
subjects included under 13 faculties. There are large number of Certificate, degree and Diploma
courses at Graduate and Post Graduate levels in various disciplines. The University of Pune attracts
international students in large numbers. At any given time, the university has more than 2000
foreign students studying in different colleges and university departments. Pune has a reputation of

VISHWAKARMA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY
Vishwakarma Institute of Technology is a highly commendable renowned private institute, which
occupies a pride place amongst the premier Technical Institutes in the Western region of India.
Established in 1984, financed and run by The Bansilal Ramnath Agarwal Charitable Trust, it is
affiliated to the University of Pune. It is recognized by the Government of Maharashtra, and is
approved by A.I.C.T.E. (All India Council of Technical Education).The Institute has obtained NAAC ‘A’
Grade from July 2013, with a CGPA of 3.29 on a scale of 4.
Within a quarter of century, the Institute has grown from 2 undergraduate, to 9 undergraduate
including 3 undergraduate programs for second shift, 8 post-graduate programs and is a recognized
research centre for Mechanical ,Chemical, Industrial and Instrumentation, Computer and E & TC
Engineering. A large number of our students have been admitted to various international universities
in countries like USA, U.K., Germany, France, etc.
The college is spread over 17 acres of land and comprises of academic building areas, playgrounds
and hostel on a plot admeasuring 6.5 acres with built up area of 32045 square meters. It has at
present over 3700 students, 218 faculty members comprising of 34 PhD holders, 70 laboratories
having instruments worth Rs. 101.7 Millions and 201 supporting staff.
From the academic year 2008-09, Vishwakarma Institute of Technology became an Autonomous
Institute affiliated to University of Pune. The Grading system in Vishwakarma Institute of Technology
is based on Grade Point Average (GPA).

Vishwakarma Institute of Technology is ISO9001-2008 certified Institute since April 2007.
Admissions to the undergraduate courses are based on the state level and national level competitive
test conducted by the respective governments. Admissions to Postgraduate programs are based on
national competitive test i.e. Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), conducted by Indian
Institutes of Technology. The competition is extremely keen and admission is restricted to less than
the top 1.0% of candidates appearing for the said examination.
Under autonomy the Institute has developed a novel syllabus wherein a student can learn
professional skills under Professional Development course and develop all round personality under
General Proficiency. Specific Slots are provided in the academic calendar for participation of students
in sports, cultural, and literary activities. This mode of learning is named as “Joyful
Learning”.

Department of Electronics Engineering
The Electronics Engineering Department has a reputation of competent engineers imbibed with the
spirit of professionalism and responsible citizenship in a competitive global environment. The
management and faculty commit themselves to the pursuit of excellence in technical education
through discovery and dissemination of values that define professional conduct.
The Electronics Engineering department consists of Group of Ph.D holders, Professors, Assistant
Professors and Lecturers with a varied teaching and Industrial experience that results in a rich blend
of knowledge that is eventually imparted to the students. The teaching faculty are members of many
prestigious institutions like IEEE(Institution of Electronics & Electrical Engineers), IETE (Institute of
Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers, Delhi), Institution of Engineers, India etc. and have
also authored numerous technical books for well known publishing houses. The Department has
laboratories for Electronic Design, Power Electronics, Electronic Communication, Microcontrollers,
Biomedical, Fibreoptics and Computer Studies to cater to the needs of the industry.
The Department of Electronics Engineering makes every effort to acquaint students with the latest
developments in related fields. The first year of engineering is common to all branches with required
core courses to be taken by all students. The Department offers regular courses in Electronic
Engineering & Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering.
The courses lays stress on theoretical as well as practical subjects. It helps the student to acquire a
comprehensive knowledge of the subject studied along with practical training and system
implementation in subject of interest.
During the sixth semester, the student, along with other subjects, works on a Mini Project of his
liking and during seventh and eighth semesters a Project geared to the needs of the industry, which
is to be presented at the end of the eighth semester.
It is the uniqueness of the Electronic Engineering Department that, the students coming from
different backgrounds when combined
come out of their complexities and transform into sound
professionals with winning personalities.

The Bachelor’s degree course in Electronics Engineering is of four years duration and each
academic year has two semesters The examination pattern consists of Class Tests, Mid
semester Examination & End semester Examination.
1. The medium of instruction is English.
2. All subjects are compulsory, except in the final year, where the student chooses the
project and an elective in the seventh semester.
3. Each semester is of 20 weeks duration; there are 8 such semesters.
4. Each lecture is of one-hour duration.

marks for passing.
