The recipient will be hired to assist with the ongoing development, programming and implementation of Harcourt House Artist Run Centre’s Youth Art Camp, outreach programs and current education programming. They will receive training in the areas of curriculum/lesson plan building, classroom management, basic interaction skills, effective teaching practices, assembly of educational lectures day-to-day operations of the centre, public relations, marketing/promotions, general office administration and more. The Summer Education Programmer will also assist in areas such as gallery installation/dismantle, special events, expanding in community connections with education and developing methods of communication. This position is primarily for individuals who take a large interest in pursuing a career in art education. Duration of internship: up to 14 weeks 35 hours a week Remuneration: $15 per hour (subject to funding) Ongoing Duties Development, programming and implementation of an exciting art camp program that includes a variety of activities and projects that reflect both fundamental and contemporary art practices Develop and implement a marketing plan (ie. updating distribution lists, sourcing out new media/marketing venues, distribution of camp information to target markets etc.) Locate and hire specialized art instructors Facilitate outreach activities Help to organize and promote Fall education classes. Prepare and distribute additional art education marketing materials Writing final reports after the completion of each summer camps Helping in the day to day running of an Artist Run Centre which could include some light lifting, answering phones, & sitting the gallery when needed Day to day administration of the program Budget management, ordering supplies, registrations, preforming and collecting evaluations Creating and distributing necessary information to registrants Scheduling and providing participants with necessary materials and information All promotions for the camp program Continued on-site coordination of the program, instructors and parents to ensure smooth operation of art program Assisting with special events as needed Personal Attributes Creative thinker, strong and flexible work ethic, organized Ability to work independently, as well as being part of a team Familiarity with the Alberta curriculum Education must be related to one or more of the following areas or specializations: Arts and Cultural Management Bachelor of Visual Arts and or Design Degree Visual Arts Diploma Art Education/Instructor Additional experience working and volunteering in the arts, developing and teaching art programs are considered assets.
