7. Hours of Work: 34 hours per week
8. Duties and Responsibilities:
1.
Report to the Chief Medical Scientist of their assigned section or to report on a day to day basis to designated senior staff when required e.g. Senior Medical Scientist or Deputy to Chief Medical Scientist.
2.
Participate in the implementation of a ‘Quality Management’ programme.
3.
Participate in a roster covering 07.00 to 19.00 as required by the laboratory.
4.
Participate in additional cover for relevant duties as determined by Management
5.
Participate in the implementation of operational processes to the standards of Good Laboratory Practice
(GLP) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) in order to optimise use of resources.
6.
Actively participate in and promote continuing education and research activities consistent with the position assigned or as assigned by the Board.
7.
Attend Laboratory training as required.
8.
Participate in writing and updating of Laboratory Documentation as requested by Senior Staff.
9.
Participate in training of staff and maintenance of Training Records as requested by Senior Staff.
10.
Perform routine work to the highest professional standards as determined by the Laboratory management team.
11.
To be responsible for the quality of their work and carry out their duties in accordance with the Board’s policy.
12.
Observe the strictest confidence when dealing with all aspects of the Board’s information.
13.
To actively participate in internal and external quality control and quality assurance/ internal proficiency as appropriate.
14.
Participate in the provision of appropriate statistical and management information.
15.
Participate in the computer integrated management system of the laboratory.
16.
Make the most effective and efficient use of developments in information technology for both patient care and administrative support.
17.
Conform to IBTS Health and Safety standards.

Perform other appropriate duties as may be assigned from time to time by laboratory management.
9. Person Specification / Selection Criteria:
Essential Criteria:
Candidates must have, or be eligible for, full Membership of the Academy of
Medical Laboratory Science and possess a relevant, recognised qualification or be accepted into the Academy of Biomedical Sciences post graduate entry programme
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Must demonstrate flexibility to work in a demand driven environment, enthusiasm, adaptability and a willingness to co-operate
Good computer skills
Desirable Criteria:
Experience of working in the area of blood transfusion or haematology
10 Legislative Requirements:
10.1 The postholder will be required to operate in accordance with, but not limited
to, the following legislative requirements:
SI 360 /2005 - European Communities (Quality and Safety of Human Blood and Blood
Components) Regulations 2005 (and its associated SI's)
SI 158 /2006 – European Communities (Quality and Safety of Human Tissues and Cells)
Regulations 2006 (and its associated SI's)
