2013 Awards Program
Call for Entries
Museums large and small strive to engage their communities and meet their missions through programs,
publications and exhibits. The Oklahoma Museums Association’s Awards Program honors the excellence and
quality of projects accomplished by institutional members.
The OMA Awards Program also recognizes individuals and groups whose contributions have impacted Oklahoma
museums and the museum profession. OMA takes great pride in honoring the quality projects and dedicated
individuals that make Oklahoma museums shine.

Entries may be submitted online or by using the entry form included in this packet. Entries must be
postmarked (if mailing) or submitted online by June 6, 2013.
Any OMA member may submit an awards entry.
A $25 entry fee is required for each entry submitted.
Judges’ decisions are final.
Fax and e-mail submissions are not accepted.
OMA reserves the right to disqualify any entry that does not meet all submission rules.
Submitted materials become the property of the Oklahoma Museums Association and may be used at
OMA’s discretion.
Deadline
Award entries must be postmarked (if mailing) or submitted online by June 6, 2013.
Entry Fee
A $25 entry fee is required for each entry submitted. Entries with unpaid fees or fees postmarked after June 6 will
not be considered.
Review Process
Following the deadline, entries are distributed to the chair of the OMA Awards Committee, Awards Committee CoChair, one master's level student, and two judges from arts/humanities councils. Judges are comprised of
individuals with an interest in and appreciation of the museum field. Award decisions made by the judges are final.
OMA staff does not participate in the judging of award entries. The OMA Awards Committee reserves the right to
not award in any category.
Notification and Recognition
Award recipients will be notified by August 1, 2013. Awards are presented at the Awards Luncheon on September 27 in
Enid, Oklahoma, as part of the Oklahoma Museums Association Conference.
Tickets for the awards luncheon will be available beginning in April. Nominators submitting Certificate of Recognition or
Laura McDonagh Streich Award for Service to the Profession entries are asked to purchase their nominee’s ticket(s).
Tickets may be purchased from the Oklahoma Museums Association. A link to purchase tickets will be available on the

Category Guidelines and Submission Materials Check List
Individual/Group Categories
Laura McDonagh Streich Award for Service to the Profession
This award honors an OMA individual member who has distinguished her/himself in the field and has helped to
significantly advance museum professionalism in the state through participation in professional organizations,
especially OMA. The nominee for this award must be a current individual member of OMA.
A complete entry includes:
□ $25 entry fee
□ Five copies of materials listed below if sending by mail (upload appropriate documents if entering online):
 Completed awards entry form
 Narrative describing the nominee’s specific accomplishments and contributions to the museum field, and
the significance of these activities
 Letters of support are recommended
□ Each copy in a 10 x 13 envelope labeled as follows (only if mailing):

Past award winners of the Laura McDonagh Streich Award include: Pendleton Woods, Peter Tirrell, Kathy Dickson,
Sandra Stratton, Dr. Bob Blackburn, Mary Herron, Dr. Carolyn Garrett Pool, Robert Powers, Julie Droke, Cherie
Cook, Michael Bruce, Doris McGranahan, Melissa Owens and Jim Goss.
Certificate of Recognition
This award recognizes local historians, board members, volunteers, docent groups, funders and other possible
nominees whose time and/or money support museums in Oklahoma. The individual, corporation, foundation, or
group nominated for a Certificate of Recognition is not required to be a member of OMA.
A complete entry includes:

 Completed awards entry form
 Narrative describing the nominee’s specific contributions and the significance of these activities
 Letters of support are recommended

Project Categories
It is acceptable for OMA institutional members to nominate their own projects in project categories. Projects must have
been completed or in use between January 1, 2012 and June 30, 2013. For joint projects, both partners must be OMA
members and both must be listed on entry form on the Institution/Name(s) line. (Note: If joint project receives award,
an additional plaques can be purchased for a fee.)
A complete entry includes:

□ Five copies of materials listed below if sending by mail (upload appropriate documents if entering online):
 Completed awards entry form
 Summary paragraph providing project overview and how the project reflects or enhances the institution’s
mission
 Completed Project Budget Expense Form with itemized expenses (includes, but not limited to: salaries,
postage, supplies, printing, construction, and in-kind expenses)
 Specific project materials as outlined below
□ Each copy in a 10 x 13 envelope labeled as follows (only if mailing):
 Project Category (Ex. Promotional Piece)
 Project Budget (Ex. $5,001-$15,000)
 OMA Member making the nomination (Ex. ABC Museum or John Doe)

 One-page narrative outlining specific conservation or preservation project efforts
 Additional supplemental material is at the nominator’s discretion
Exhibits (Rented/borrowed exhibits are not eligible even if the institution incorporated owned material.)
 One-page narrative outlining the design process and concept, target audience and demographics served,
and the exhibition’s main topic and sub-themes
 Sample text from the exhibition and a floor plan of the layout
 Additional supplemental materials relating to the exhibition are encouraged
Outreach or Education
 One-page narrative outlining the project’s development process, purpose, target audience and approx.
numbers served
 Additional supplemental materials relating to the project are encouraged
Promotional Piece (brochure, invitation, press kit, poster, website, Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
 One-page narrative outlining purpose, target audience and method of distribution
 Submit representative copies of specific pages, an online link to the promotional piece, or a full copy of the
promotional piece
 Additional supplemental material is at the nominator’s discretion
Publication (magazine, book, exhibition catalogue, newsletter, etc.)
 One-page narrative describing the design and print process
