UWS is a four campus University located in Ayr, Dumfries, Paisley and Hamilton, the Sustainable Behaviour Co-ordinator post will be based at Paisley campus with a remit covering all four campuses. We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate with a desire to encourage pro-environmental behavioural change in UWS staff, students and the wider community. The role The SAUWS Sustainable Behaviour Co-ordinator will be responsible for the delivery of three key carbon saving projects, The Green Impact Programme, Watts On? Home Energy Programme and Halls of residence Reuse and Recycling project. The post is based in our Paisley campus and projects will cover the Ayr, Hamilton and Paisley campuses therefore occasional travel will be required. Green impact is an environmental accreditation scheme that encourages pro-environmental behaviours by staff. It empowers sustainability champions within their workplace, helping them gain recognition for their environmental efforts, whilst playing on the competitive spirit of staff working in teams. It provides people and their departments with a tangible framework for improving their environmental performance, breaking down complex environmental issues into more manageable bite-sized chunks. This role will Watts On? Home Energy Saving Programme targets reduction of energy use in halls of residence and private staff and student households. One of the main elements of this project is the development and implementation of an energy saving mobile phone application. The programme will also involve face to face advice on saving energy and money, developing and delivering a range of promotional activity though social media, roadshows, events and wider behaviour change campaigns. Halls of residence Reuse and Recycling This project will provide the behaviour change support which will be necessary to increase recycling rates. We will also encourage reuse and waste minimisation through a variety of engagement strategies and activities such as organising swap shops, reuse and upcycling and craft workshops. This project will develop strong partnership with Zero waste Scotland and work closely with relevant staff within the University. Key Outputs Coordinate and support the Green Impact project to encourage pro-environmental behaviour change across the institution and wider community. Support existing Green Impacts teams and increase the number of teams at each campus, target of 10 new teams. Successful delivery of the University’s Green Impact project by the specified completion dates. Reduce energy consumption in halls of residences through the development and delivery of the Halls Energy Saving Programme. Plan and manage the Waste strand of the Climate Change and Sustainability project. Put in place robust monitoring and evaluating procedures for both projects feeding into wider SAUWS carbon reduction reports. Develop and drive forward wider environmental projects across the university. Duties Meet with stakeholders around the University (staff and student groups) to encourage their early involvement in projects. Recruit, coordinate and motivate teams of volunteers to drive forward the University’s Green Impact project through their involvement as departmental teams and as auditors Liaise with the UWS Accommodation Unit and UWS Sustainability Team to develop and deliver Home Energy Saving Programme including practical advice and awareness raising campaigns. To assist with other projects relevant to Green Impact being conducted by SAUWS and UWS Energy and Environment Team. Organise and facilitate an Awards Ceremony for the participating departments in line with the timescales of the project and with the aim of celebrating the successes and impacts of the teams and the project Work in a team with the other Climate Change and Sustainability staff on events and communications. Organise events and activities to promote recycling and reduce waste through reusing (in partnership with Zero Waste Scotland where necessary) Consult with the Estates department how the Waste and Energy programmes can be embedded in their operations to ensure the lasting legacy of the project. Recruit, coordinate and motivate students to assist with the delivery and promotion of the project. Develop and deliver campaign strategies using a mix of social media, events, road shows and other media which effectively engages with your audience. Project management experience and skills Experience of managing a budget Experience of producing and delivering marketing campaigns (e.g. newsletters, social media campaigns, events etc.) Experience of working within a Students’ Union or University Skills, Knowledge and Ability Excellent interpersonal skills Excellent communication skills, written and verbal Pro-active, confident and enthusiastic in engaging with others Good IT skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email, and Social media.
