PROCEDURE FOR HANDLING INCIDENTS OR
MEDICAL EMERGENCIES ON THE WATER
In the event of an incident or medical emergency on the water,
the PRO for that race circle will be the On-scene Manager. The
person manning the Rescue or Patrol boat at the incident will
be Second in Command, unless otherwise designated.
1. The nearest Rescue or Patrol Boat for that circle will go
directly to the aid of the person or people involved in the
incident to assess the situation and determine if a medical
emergency exists.
2. The Rescue or Patrol Boat will call the PRO to advise the
nature of the incident. Thereafter they will continue to keep
the PRO aware of their activities.
3. If there is a medical emergency, the Rescue or Patrol Boat
will call Hyannis Yacht Club/ Shoreside Management.
Be prepared to provide the following information:
 Who you are
 Where are you calling from
 Why are you calling: describe the nature of the
emergency
 Who and how many people are involved
 The name(s) of who is/are involved
 What assistance do you need (if any)
 When did the emergency occur
 In case of a medical emergency, co-ordinate a plan
with Shoreside Management for bringing the
person(s) in need of medical attention to a specified
location to receive emergency treatment.
4. The PRO will also alert the "on-the-water" medical team.

5. Shoreside Management will:
 Call 911 if necessary, (be prepared to provide the
nature of the emergency, pickup time and location)
 Send additional safety boats to the area if necessary
 Notify the dock staff of any assistance that will be
needed on the docks (clearing the docks, clearing a
landing area)
 Notify the Harbor Master, Police , Fire Department or
Coast Guard if necessary
 Notify the Regatta Chairmen of the situation
 Locate the Personal Health and Medical Form if the
person involved in the emergency is under 18 years old
 Notify the Club Manager of the situation
 General Manager will notify the Emergency Contact
or the Parent/Guardian of anyone involved in the
emergency, if deemed necessary
6. At the conclusion of the incident or emergency, an appropriate
incident or emergency report will be completed by Shoreside
Management.
7. Shoreside Management and the General Manager will
represent the Club with any Government agencies and the
Press, if required.
