COURSE INSTRUCTORS:
Leif Öhman: Chief Ice Technician at World, World Junior and European Curling Championships for more than
25 years. Chief Ice Technician at 1998, 2002 and 2006 Olympic Games and Technical Delegate for the 2002, 2006
and 2014 Olympic Games. Educated as traffic and construction engineer. Member of the Executive Board of the
WCF and the Swedish Curling Association. Author of the Curling Ice Explained Manual.
Hans Wuthrich: Chief Ice Technician at World, World Junior, Canadian and European Curling Championships
for more than 20 years. Certified Level 4 Canadian Curling Association Ice Technician. Licensed for 200 tons+
refrigeration. Power Engineer’s Certificate, Manitoba, Canada. Chief Ice Technician for the 2010 and 2014
Olympic Games.
COURSE CONTENT: Using the WCF Ice Technician Manual (Curling Ice Explained – CIE) numerous topics
will be discussed and demonstrated:
 The development of the game and its demand on curling ice
 Specific definition of curling ice, game tactics
 The floors of a curling rink
 Measuring, painting and the lines
 Actual ice installation
 Flooding
 Curling ice in an arena
 Maintaining the ice pad (scraping, etc.)
 Routines and equipment, end of season maintenance
 Pebbling
 Temperature and other readings
 Humidity, heating and ventilation, lighting
 Water, ice and curling stone quality
 The refrigeration system and energy
NOTE: Bring warm clothing and suitable footwear for working on the ice. Also clothes which may
get dirty while we paint the ice!

Umpire.

COURSE CONTENT:
This course is designed for experienced instructors and coaches who are looking to update and upgrade their
teaching techniques and who may be working with curling teams that want to be more competitive.
Knowledge and practical experience will be gained in the following areas: delivery update and analysis, sweeping
update, strategy and tactics, technical skill analysis (using video analysis) with correction techniques, coaching
ethics, goal setting, season planning, proper warm-ups and cool downs.

Campers will stay in a local Youth Hostel, with adult supervision.
Transportation is supplied during the Camp, use of private vehicles is not allowed.
The consumption of alcohol is strictly forbidden during the camp.
All campers have a 23:00 curfew.
Failure to abide by the Camp Rules will result in the camper being sent home.
