We had another great turnout for Saturday’s match. There was a bit of wind that couldn’t
decide which direction it wanted to come from. The shooters got to experience it coming from
every angle, sometimes changing from one shot to the next. Light conditions also changed as
the day progressed, not for the better. Such is the nature of Palo Alto, a range that always has
a few surprises for those who shoot there. It keeps us coming back.
Dan Zelenka won the match with a 774-20X, out Xing Bob Jenkins due to an inopportune 7 on
Bob’s last shot of the match. Bill Jenkins was 1 st Master, shooting a 749-18X with his new bolt
gun. Lee Shall came out of retirement, firing his first match in several years, and managing a
respectable 748-9X. Wayne Creel won a combined Expert/Sharpshooter class with a 749-8X,
shooting his first clean rapid fire string. Bruce Pickering, trying out his new trigger, fired a
personal best 300 yd score; and Charles Freeman is looking to move up, shooting a good
expert level score. The Marksman class shooters had a good day. Sam Beane shot a strong
730-9X for the win, followed by Bruce Record with a near Expert score. Both James Biermann
and Otto Bader fired personal bests; and we had a pair of newcomers, David and Charles
Bernard, who shot a 663-5X and a 639-2X respectively in their debut match.
The next across the course match will be held on Saturday, 21 June 2008. There will also be
a 3 X 600 yard match on Saturday, 7 June 2008. For more information on that match, contact
