The NSNA 30

th

Annual MidYear Career Planning Conference

Held in San Diego, CA, November 8 – 11

Brooklyn, New York. December 13, 2012— The

National Student Nurses’ Association

(NSNA) 30 th Annual Career Planning Conference was held at Town and Country Resort and

Convention Center in San Diego, California on November 8-11, 2012. Nursing students, faculty, exhibitors and alumni attended educational workshops, and listened to renowned speakers. Many attendees also had the opportunity to meet with the 2012-2013 NSNA

Board of Directors, Nominating and Elections Committee, Resolutions Committee

Chairperson, and nursing leaders across the nation. Although the NSNA headquarters office was forced to close down the entire week prior to the event (due to power outages and closure of public transportation caused by Hurricane Sandy), the conference ran smoothly and proved to be a great success.

On Thursday, keynote speaker Donna Cardillo , MA, RN, kicked off the Opening Ceremony with her keynote address, "Nursing: A Career for Your Lifetime." Cardillo is a national speaker, author, consultant and coach. Her insight, humor and vast knowledge base were key to the

success of her presentation, which left attendees feeling refreshed and inspired to continue striving for a successful and enduring career in nursing.

As the conference continued throughout the next two days, students attended the

mini review course; a meeting of the Council of State Presidents; and many workshops focusing on various topics, including: understanding healthcare policy, career progression, ethics and nursing, writing resolutions and more. A two-part nursing specialty showcase highlighted representatives of: air and transport nursing, nurse midwifery, geriatric nursing, nursing informatics, global nursing, critical care nursing, nephrology nursing, infusion nursing, oncology nursing, emergency nursing, and psychiatric nursing.

At the MidYear Exhibit Hall, students networked and spoke with representatives from hospitals, schools of nursing, and other publishing and product companies.

During exhibit hours, attendees also had a great opportunity to bring their résumé and questions to meet with advisors in the NSNA Career Development Center.

During the Foundation of the NSNA (FNSNA) MidYear Conference Fundraiser, attendees enjoyed a night of laughter, singing, dancing and a beach footwear decorating contest. Door prizes and a special message from professional football player and motivational speaker Prince Daniels, Jr also made the evening a great success! The event raised over $800 for the FNSNA Disaster Relief Fund to benefit victims of Hurricane

Sandy.
