Cultural Concept/s Cooperation Respect Instructional Strategies Assessment Kindergarten to Grade 4 Science: A Foundation for Implementation Activating Strategies: Students will listen to an Elder, Aboriginal hunter and/or educator talk about respecting and valuing animals and nature from their perspectives. Teacher prepares and provides a variety of materials and resources on animals for the students. Teacher will provide to class an assortment of animal sorting cards with information content. Students will sort the cards into identified categories BLM#1 Animal Sorting Cards BLM#2 Animal Sorting Sheet BLM#3 Animal Information Sheet Acquiring Strategies: Students record the name of the animal, home, size, color, food, and interesting facts. BLM#4 Animal Uses Sheet Students will research the uses of the animal selected into a scrapbook using title headings such as Name of Animal, Appearance, Habitat, Size, Life Cycle, etc. Scrapbook on Animals Applying Strategies: Student will write a story of the animal in the scrapbook. Students can play a puzzle game putting the animals together. Students will play a memory game by flipping two cards to find the identical animals.
