THE PERFORMERS
Rainbow Canyon set attendance records at the Agora and gained a reputation for their exciting live show and five part vocal harmonies. They played concerts, colleges and clubs throughout the Midwest. In 1972 the Plain Dealer wrote, “Their sets are fast paced and high energy …. one of the best live shows this area has seen.” In 1973 they signed with Capitol
Records and released the album “Rollin’ in the Rockies” and two singles. Last year they released The Rainbow Canyon Anthology, a 3-disc box set featuring all of their recorded music including demos, 2 albums, singles and a live concert recorded at The Agora.
Joey and the Continentals were Cleveland’s first super group. They played to packed houses at Gilmour Hall, the Green Darby and Shibley’s Sahara as well as the Agora. They inspired and influenced many bands of the day with their rock solid rhythm section, rocking tenor sax and vocals. They were the house band on Upbeat, the nationally syndicated television show which originated in Cleveland and was shown in over 100 cities. On Upbeat they backed up many superstars of the day. Over the years they released many singles which garnered radio airplay.
Paul Fayrewether is an incredible “theater rock” act that plays throughout the Midwest.
They gained a large following as one of the most innovative bands of the 70’s & 80’s. Singer,
Paul Fayrewether, is known for his elaborate costuming and theatrics. He was once described as
“Robert DeNiro meets Sting.”
Their musicianship and jazz flavored rock music made them a favorite of musicians and rock fanatics alike. Their captivating shows at the Agora fulfilled their promise to “always expect surprises”. They were on the Miller Brewing
Company Rock Network for 4 years and released 5 LPs and singles.
Easy Street was the quintessential “Agora” band. They played many college night promotions and always gave the people their moneys worth. Westside Steve was the charismatic front man whose acerbic humor kept the crowd on it’s toes. This hard rocking horn band cranked out the tunes that kept the dance floor packed. They had an enormous following of devoted fans.
Wild Horses was a very successful party band whose motto was “give the people what they want.” They were a staple at the Cleveland Agora and toured the Agora chain throughout the south. In the mid 70’s they had a big hit single called “Funky Poodle”
which garnered major airplay on WMMS and other stations. Later, an album was released on Agora Records.
