All courses are very intensive, with a great emphasis placed upon interaction
between the participants, Instructors and Speakers. All participants benefit from the
Campus environment, with few distractions, and many use the opportunity to learn
more than the course material, by discussion with the tutors and the fellow
participants, in some cases leading to new collaborations.
All courses are fully residential and the participants are expected to reside at the
Wellcome Trust Conference Centre during the course, even if the participant lives
locally.
Participants must aim to arrive for the start of the course, and not plan to depart
before the scheduled finish time. It is very disruptive to the instructors if participants
arrive late or depart early.
The course will include evening sessions and attendance is required.
Non-attendance during the course may be reported to the Supervisor or Sponsor.
Partners and/or children are not allowed on Campus. The course is very intensive
and there is little free time.
Wellcome Trust Advanced Courses are not able to arrange additional nights’
accommodation for participants. These may be booked at the expense of the
participant, and arrangements must be made directly with the Wellcome Trust
Conference Centre (reception@wtconference.org.uk)
Participants must have travel insurance (if not local) and non-UK residents must have
medical insurance for the duration of their stay. The Wellcome Trust will not be
responsible for any travel costs incurred, nor medical costs.

Wellcome Trust Advanced Courses Policy on Flight Disruption - April 2010
The closure of British and parts of European airspace after the Icelandic volcanic ash
cloud in mid-April affected courses scheduled to start during that time. One course
was postponed and another went ahead with fewer participants.
In the event that flights are disrupted on further occasions, we have the following
policy:
Each course will be assessed individually.
We will liaise with the instructors to try to run the course where possible.
We may delay the start of the course by a day if it is felt that more attendees will be
here, but accommodation will be available on site from the original start date.
If the course runs, we will refund the course fee (less the deposit) for anyone from
overseas who is unable to attend the course (within two days of the start date) due to
a closure of British airspace. WTAC will not cover flight costs for participants (these
should be recouped from the airline or insurance), nor any other travel costs
incurred.
If the course is postponed, we will offer all participants a place on the next course
and transfer their course fee to the rescheduled dates. Course fee refunds will not be
given (WTAC will still be charged for the accommodation and food costs of the
original course dates by the WT Conference Centre, as well as for the new dates.
WTAC will absorb these costs). WTAC will not cover flight costs for participants
(these should be recouped from the airline) nor any other travel costs incurred.
If the course is cancelled, then we will offer all participants the opportunity to attend
the course the following year. We will transfer their course fee to the next course.
We will refund the course fee (less the deposit) to those who do not wish to be
transferred to the following year’s course. (WTAC will still be charged for the
accommodation and food costs of the original course dates by the WT Conference
Centre, as well as for the new dates. WTAC will absorb these costs). WTAC will not
cover flight costs for participants (these should be recouped from the airline). For UK
participants who incur travel costs which are non-refundable, WTAC will assess
these on a case-by-case basis for reimbursement, if not covered by insurance.
