4 MOSCOW BIENNALE ARCHITECTURE 19 INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION OF ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN ARCH MOSCOW MAY 21 – 25, 2014 CENTRAL HOUSE OF ARTISTS POST RELEASE On May 25 closed their doors 4 Moscow Biennale of Architecture and 19th International Exhibition of Architecture and Design ARCH Moscow. For 5 days of the exhibition over 20,000 people visited the Central House of Artists, 74.1% of them - a professional audience. In the event participated 212 companies, 166 domestic and 46 foreign from 16 countries: Austria, Britain, Germany, Holland, Denmark, Spain, Italy, Latvia, Lebanon, Russia, USA, Ukraine, France, Switzerland, Sri Lanka, Estonia. ARCH Moscow presented sections: Architecture, Exterior and Interior Design, Light in Architecture, Details and GARDEN FEST. ARCH CATALOGUE was one of the central projects of ARCH Moscow. To participate in the project were invited masters, most clearly manifested themselves in the last 2 years, and young architects. The participants dwelt upon a current topic for them - thus there was formed a kind of show of works. The project aimed at the promotion and popularization of Russian architecture among the general public, at demonstration of the possibilities and achievements of Russian architects. Traditionally at ARCH CATALOGUE there was chosen the Architect of the Year: Alexander Skokan, Architectural bureau “OSTOZHENKA”. Award partner - “Gals-Development”. At 4 Moscow Biennale Architecture there were presented 30 projects. Main theme of the Biennale – Urban Blocks. Most projects showed the acceptability of this approach to the planning of the urban environment on the example of practical embodiment of the method in different countries. Exposition “URBAN BLOCKS. Russian Experience” (curator – Bart Goldhoorn) demonstrated 21 current projects of blocks in Russia that meet the basic requirements of the modern metropolis - the ability to organize the public space. The following developers joined the project: Urban Group, SC “Terra Auri”, JSC “GalsDevelopment”, Rose Group (RGI), СJSC “Masshtab”, Concern “KROST”. “CONTESTS” project (curator – Elena Gonsales, designer of the exposition – Ilia Moukosey) presented 19 best contests of 2012-2013, held by the public agencies, private commercial structures and non-profit institutions in Moscow and Russia. The exposition included both the winning projects and the analysis of the contest practices its organization and results. As part of the Biennale there were organized presentation and discussion of the contest projects. The program of 4 Moscow Biennale Architecture included the FIRST MOSCOW ARCHITECTURAL FORUM. It was a professional discussion for developers, architects and Government that lasted for 2 days. The given format allowed the participants to meet each other for specific tasks and interests, as well as get acquainted with the discussed objects immediately at the exposition. The main theme of the MOSCOW ARCHITECTURAL FORUM is the new urban policies of Moscow: block construction and competitive practices. Developers of Moscow and Moscow region together with the architects and the Government discussed: the continuity of block development approach to planning of the urban environment on the examples of projects of Russian and foreign architects; the ability of the block to organize social life; the problems of standards of block construction; competitive practices - as a tool to explore the potential of the territory; contest, as an effective tool for development of the architectural quality of the city. A traditional Breakfast of an Architect was held on May 23. One of the main topics of the meeting was the interaction between developers, architects and government. During an informal conversation Sergei Kuznetsov, Chief architect of Moscow, answered the main questions of the architectural community and developers. Traditionally, the program of the exhibition included 85 educational events: workshops, lectures and seminars. Among the speakers there were: Claudio Silvestrin with the lecture “The Beauty will Save the World” (England), Federico Delrosso with the lecture “The Light in Architecture”, Christian and Michael Sieger (Germany), Jean-Paul Ganem with a master class in Landscape Architecture (France), Pekka Helin (Finland), Louise Fonsek (Norway) and many others. This year GARDEN FEST festival was a section of Moscow Biennale Architecture and was held concurrently with the 19th International exhibition of architecture and design ARCH Moscow. Courtyard of the Central House of Artists became a platform for professional communication of landscape industry specialists. Subject of GARDEN FEST 2014 - “City Yard”. Within GARDEN FEST were presented the winner-works of the contest “A Yard of an Architect”, there was a round table discussion “The Yards”.
