Susie Seaman will: 1. describe assessment findings for atypical ulcers due to pathologies such as nonatherosclerotic ischemia, inflammation, and carcinoma. 2. review the basics of local and systemic therapy for the treatment of the above conditions. 3. identify three assessment findings for patients with venous ulcers, arterial ulcers, and diabetic foot ulcers. 4. review the basics of treatment of these leg ulcers. Dale Allison will: 1. identify the nurses’ attitudes in responding to culturally diverse patients. 2. review patients’ attitudes toward western and traditional wound care. 3. discuss contrasting and converging health care perspectives for patient response and outcomes. 4. identify how cultural diversity impacts care in the outpatient wound care setting. She is a specialist and consultant in the outpatient care of patients with complex wounds such as venous, arterial, diabetic and pressure ulcers. She is a frequent speaker at seminars nationwide. Judy Papen, MSN, RN, CNS, CWOCN, is a Certified Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nurse. She is currently employed by Mölnlycke Healthcare as a Regional Clinical Specialist for the Sun Coast Region, based in Florida. Prior to her current employment, she worked in industry for more than 15 years, first as a sales consultant, then a wound care specialist and recently as a Regional Clinical Manager. Her background also includes acute, long term and home care experience for 13 years as a WOC nurse consultant to patients with ostomies and wounds. Dale M. Allison, PHD, APRN, WHNP, BC, FNP, FAAN is a full Professor of Nursing at Hawai`i Pacific University, College of Nursing and Health Sciences. She was educated at the Boston University (BSN, 1965) and the University of Pennsylvania, (MSN, 1982 & PhD, 1994). Dr. Allison teaches community health and advanced practice nursing and is a nurse practitioner at Hawai`i Jobs Corps. Dr. Allison has directed integrative healthcare with Nurse Practitioners and Traditional Hawaiian Healers. She produced a DVD on Hawaiian Health and Healing. Dr. Allison is Chair of the Hawai`i State Center for Nursing, CoChair of the American Academy of Nursing, Cultural Competency Expert Panel and is a member of the National Quality Forum (NFQ) Cultural Competency Panel. This activity has been submitted to the Arizona Nurses Association (ANA) for approval to award contact hours.
