CAMBRIDGE LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS – 2014-2015
(The Scholarship application is on page 6 following the scholarship listings)
Adas Family Scholarship- This $1000 scholarship is designated for a graduating senior enrolling in a Trade,
Technical or Vocational school. Financial need of the applicant will be considered for this scholarship.
Patrick Adas Memorial Scholarship – Established in memory of Patrick Adas, a Cambridge graduate and
community member. This $1000 scholarship is designated for a graduating senior enrolling in a Trade,
Technical or Vocational school. Financial need of the applicant will be considered for this scholarship.
Administrative Scholarship- Established by the administrative team, this $500 scholarship will be awarded to
a student who plans on pursuing a career in the educational field. This includes any position related to
education.
Alvin Amundson Memorial- Four $1000 scholarships will be awarded on a competitive basis from the estate
of the late Alvin E. Amundson to Cambridge High School seniors.
Badger Vetinary Hospital Scholastic Scholarship- This $500 scholarship is designated for a graduating
senior who has a minimum GPA of 3.5; is pursuing a degree in an animal health field at a vocational/technical
school or four year university. The recipient must also have been involved in an animal related course of study
or group at the high school level.
Borchardt Family Scholarship- The Roger and Joy Borchardt Family Scholarship is designated for two
students who have a thirst for knowledge, exhibit strong personal character, integrity and leadership, as well as
a love for life and others while maintaining a minimum 2.5 GPA. Two $500 scholarships will be awarded to
qualified students for attendance at a post-secondary college/technical /vocational/trade school.
Cambridge Area Lions ScholarshipTwo scholarships will be awarded to the students that are going to major in the health care field, preferably
focusing on sight or vision. Priority will be given to students who have a family member who is or has been a
member of the Cambridge Area Lions Club. Please indicate on the application the name of the family member
and their relationship to you.
One Kurt May Environmental Scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior pursuing a major in the field of
Environmental Studies. Selections for these scholarships may also need to conduct an interview with a
Cambridge Area Lions Club member. Priority will be given to students who have a family member who is or
has been a member of the Cambridge Area Lions Club. Please indicate on the application the name of the
family member and their relationship to you.
Cambridge Area Mason's Scholarship- One $1000 scholarship will be awarded to a senior planning to
continue his/her education at a college or vocational school. Special consideration will be given towards a
student who demonstrates financial need. Leadership ability and service to the community, school or church will
also be a primary factor for selecting a recipient. The recipient and parent must attend a Masonic Lodge
meeting in June to meet the members and see what they are about.
Cambridge Education Association Scholarship- Scholarships of $500 will be awarded on a competitive
basis to graduating seniors from Cambridge High School. One $500 scholarship is specifically designated for a
student planning to enter into teaching or a teaching related field. Also, one scholarship is designated as the
Dale Breitlow Memorial Scholarship ($500).

Cambridge Foundation Scholarship- The Cambridge Foundation scholarship is designated for 2 graduating
seniors who have significantly volunteered their time to the community, performed community service and
whose community service has made the Cambridge Community a better place to live. Both scholarships are
worth $1,000.
Cambridge High School Alumni Scholarship- Two $750 scholarships will be awarded to a son/daughter of a
Cambridge High School alumnus. This award can be used to attend either a college or vocational school of the
student's choice. The award will be provided to the student after the recipient enrolls in 2nd semester of a
college or technical school.
Cambridge High School Leadership/Service Scholarships– Two $500 scholarships given by an anonymous
donor in the Cambridge community are awarded to Cambridge graduates for their outstanding leadership in
service to their community and neighbors. Students who have performed significant community service and
leadership will be considered for this award. Students will receive their scholarship after completion of their 1st
semester of college and can prove that he/she maintains good academic standing and must provide proof of
enrollment in the second semester of post-secondary education. Good academic standing is defined as
maintaining a 3.0 GPA.
Cambridge State Bank Scholarship- Three $500 scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors who will
be attending a Wisconsin college or university. One scholarship is specifically designated for a student
planning to attend UW Whitewater. Applicants should have a minimum G.P.A. of 2.5 and have some evidence
of financial need. The Cambridge State Bank will select scholarship recipients.
Carpenter-Lounds Memorial- Established in memory of Carl Lounds and June Carpenter-Lounds, this
scholarship will award one $500 scholarship to a student enrolled in a four year accredited university or college
and participating in a program leading to a licensure as a teacher in a K-12 school system. If no applicant plans
on teacher education other applicants will be considered.
Clare Quale Memorial- One $500 scholarship will be awarded in the memory of Clare Quale, who was a
faithful volunteer at the Cambridge Elementary School.
CUNA Mutual Group “Growing in the Right Direction” Scholarship- This scholarship will be awarded to a
student who is planning on attending a 2 or 4 year institution of higher learning. This $500 scholarship is
awarded to high schools throughout Dane County by CUNA Mutual. Financial need will be primary
consideration for this scholarship. In addition, record of volunteerism in the school or community and the
student’s past academic performance will also be a factor in giving this award. Past academic performance is
important to show that a student has potential to succeed at the post secondary level.
Edward D. Smithback Memorial- Given in the memory of Edward Smithback, a 1948 Cambridge High School
graduate. Mr. Smithback was a Businessman and Entrepreneur in Stoughton, Wisconsin. A $500 scholarship
will be awarded to a student planning to attend a vocational/ technical college. Selections made by the
scholarship committee with presentation of the scholarship made by the family.
Erik Biermeier Memorial Scholarship- This scholarship is given in the memory of Erik Biermeier. This
scholarship will be given to a student who is an active participant in Show Choir and has a cumulative GPA of
3.0 or better.

George R. Nikolay Memorial Scholarship- Established in memory of George R. Nikolay, this scholarship will
award one $1,000 scholarship to a student enrolled in a four year accredited university or college and
participating in a program leading to a licensure as a teacher in a K-12 school system. If no applicant plans on
teacher education other applicants will be considered. The recipient must have demonstrated some evidence
of service in both school and community. The Local Scholarship Committee screens for qualified applicants
and the Nikolay family makes the final selection.
Hall of Honor Community Service Scholarship – The Hall of Honor Committee will award two scholarships in
the amount of $300. One will go to a graduating senior girl and one to a graduating senior boy. The student
must be continuing their education at a two-year vocational or technical school or a 4-year college. The student
must have a 2.75 GPA or higher to be eligible for the scholarship. The student must have qualified for the
Silver Cord Service Award and shall submit a short-essay describing positive experiences gained from their
volunteer service (no longer than one page word processed essay). The essay should be attached to the local
scholarship application.
Harvey Melster Memorial- Established in the memory of the late Harvey Melster, a Cambridge business and
community leader. This renewable scholarship is worth $500-$1000 per year for up to four years of college.
Student must attend a University of Wisconsin institution. Scholarship awards will be disbursed by the UW
Foundation and will be sent to the UW school that the scholarship recipient has declared for enrollment.
James and Helen Knoblauch Memorial- James, former Superintendent of Cambridge Schools, and his wife
Helen a long time teacher in the Cambridge School system have created a $500 scholarship that will be
awarded to a senior planning to pursue post secondary education.
Jody Melton Volenberg Memorial Scholarship - This scholarship was established in memory of Jody Melton,
a 1982 graduate from Cambridge High School. This scholarship worth $1500 was created to serve as a lasting
memory of Jody by her classmate and friend. In October 1994, Jody was diagnosed with breast cancer and
passed away a short 9 months after. Financial need will be one of the factors considered in determining the
recipient for this scholarship.
Johannes Vasby Memorial- Established in the memory of Johannes Vasby and his love for Christ, athletics,
and music. A renewable scholarship for a total of four years will be given in the amount of $1000 to a student
from Cambridge High School. Criteria for this scholarship will be for students participating in athletics or music
and pursuing an education from a Protestant (faith based) college or university. The scholarship recipient will
need to maintain a 2.8 G.P.A to qualify for this renewable scholarship. Distribution of the scholarship funds will
be released to the student after an official grade report stating that a 2.5 G.P.A. has been met for that year.
Michael Bamlett Memorial/Cambridge Community Fire Department Scholarship- One or more
scholarships will be awarded to a student continuing their education at a vocational/technical or four-year
college. This scholarship is given by the Cambridge Community Fire Department in memory of Mike Bamlett, a
long time Fire Department member and chief. Preference will be given to children of present Cambridge
Community Fire Department personnel and/or students continuing their education in fire service.
Oscar Severson Memorial- Established in the memory of Oscar Severson, a long-term resident of Cambridge,
in the amount of $350.
Philip and Paula Vasby Family Scholarship- A renewable scholarship for a total of four years will be given in
the amount of $1000 to a student graduating from Cambridge High School who will be attending a Christian
based university or college. Primary consideration will go to a graduate with a foreign language emphasis and
secondary consideration of financial need of the recipient.

PleasanTime Child Care Scholarship- Established by the administrator of the child care center - this
scholarship in the amount of $500 will be awarded to a graduating senior who plans to continue his/her
education in a field relating to child care. The recipient must also have attended Pleasatime as a child.
Ronald Strohbusch Memorial- Established in the memory of Ronald Strohbusch, a long-time Cambridge area
resident. One $500 scholarship will be awarded a student planning to continue their education at a college or
vocational school. Primary consideration will be given to students pursuing a career in Agriculture. Secondary
consideration will be given to students pursuing a career in Science.
Rumpf Family Scholarship- The Donald and Grace Rumpf Family scholarship is designated for a student
with a minimum 2.5 Grade Point Average; entering the field of nursing, to become a registered nurse, licensed
practical nurse, nurses aid, etc.; and who demonstrates compassion for individuals in need. Two scholarships
worth $1000 will be awarded to a qualified student who has financial need and has intentions to pursue postsecondary education in a nursing field.
Vasby Farms Scholarship- Three $1500 will be awarded to students who will be continuing their education at
a vocational/technical school or four year college and are pursuing a career in agriculture, health care, or
nursing.
Victor R. Johnson Memorial- Established in the memory of Victor R. Johnson, a long-time Cambridge
resident. Two $500 scholarships will be awarded to Cambridge graduates planning to continue their education
at an accredited school.

Other scholarships: Separate applications available in the CHS Library or online:
Cambridge Athletic Boosters Club: This club will award at least one female and one male graduating senior athlete a
$500 scholarship. This student will be continuing their education at a vocational/technical school or a four year college.
The student must have completed at least six sport seasons throughout their high school career. This includes athletes
as well as team managers. Additional considerations include students who have volunteered their time and skills to the
betterment of youth athletics as well as those students who have demonstrated exemplary sportsmanship and support for
fellow participants. Selection will be made by the Cambridge Athletic Booster Club Board of Directors.
Dozer 52 Scholarship- Established in the memory of Dustin Zuelsdorf, and to create a lasting legacy to the 2005
Cambridge football team. Dustin, a member of the Cambridge High School class of 2005, exemplified leadership on and
off the football field through his dedication to excellence, commitment and hard work. The scholarship will be awarded to
any senior football player who exhibits an outstanding commitment to the Cambridge football program, and to their fellow
classmates, family and community. The recipient must plan on continuing their education at any accredited institution.
Scholarship amount is variable each year. Selection will be based on recommendations by the football coaching staff;
however, final selection will be made by the Dozer 52 Scholarship Board.
Hoops Club The Cambridge Hoops Club will be sponsoring two $500 scholarships to graduating seniors. There will be a
scholarship available to a senior boy and girl basketball player. The applicant must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or
higher, have been a member of the Cambridge Basketball teams for all 4 years of high school, and planning to continue
their education at a technical college or four year college/university. Selection will be made by the Cambridge Hoops
Club.
Wrestling Club -This club will award up to two or more scholarships to graduating senior wrestlers and a scholarship to
team statisticians who will be continuing education at a vocational/technical school or a four-year college. Grade point will
be considered and a minimum of 2.5 cumulative G.P.A. will be required. Applicants must have been a member of a high
school wrestling team for all 4 years of high school. Selection will be made by the Cambridge Wrestling Club.
FFA Alumni Scholarship – The FFA Alumni Scholarship is given to students who have been in FFA for 2 or more years,
played an active role in FFA (participated in local, state, or national activities), have an SAE and/or proficiency area, have
a 2.5 GPA or higher, never received lower than a “B” in any agriculture class, and are pursuing a post-secondary
education at either a technical school or college. Applicants must submit at a completed application (FFA Alumni
Application), a current resume and a 100 word essay regarding why you feel you deserve this scholarship. Applicants are
not required to be pursing a career in agriculture in order to receive this scholarship. Selection will be made by the FFA
Alumni Scholarship Committee.
