Review the listing to determine eligibility for a particular scholarship. Review the requirements for each to decide if a particular scholarship should be pursued. Visit the website provided and complete the application on-line or pick up a paper copy (if applicable) in the guidance office. ***For scholarships that require an official transcript, complete a transcript release form and submit it to the guidance office, allowing two weeks to process this request. Students are responsible for picking up the official sealed transcript and adding it to the scholarship application. Students must gather ALL necessary materials (Letters of recommendation, transcripts, signatures, copy of awards etc.), organize them and mail them to the address provided by the deadline. The guidance office does not mail scholarship applications (unless noted for a few particular scholarships). Those applications that require a return to the guidance office will be noted. It is important that all directions, suggestions and guidelines be followed for each scholarship. Wisniewski Jr. Memorial Scholarship Scholarship Descriptions ** denotes Pottsgrove ONLY scholarships (A) AAA Safety Patrol Scholarship- Candidates for the Safety Patrol Scholarship must be high school seniors and have documented proof of participation in the AAA’s School Safety Program. NOMINEES FOR THE FOUR YEAR ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP: They must rank in the top 25% of their class, have a strong record of scholastic achievement and participation in extracurricular activities. NOMINEES FOR THE TWO-YEAR VOCATIONAL/NON-VOCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP: Students must be enrolled in an accredited vocational or non-vocational program, and have a strong record of achievements. -Qualified scholarship candidates should obtain an application in the high school guidance office once available (by posting and announcement). Once completed and all materials are gathered by the student and put together for the committee, the student must hand in all materials to the guidance office. ONE STUDENT FOR EACH SCHOLARSHIP CATEGORY WILL BE SELECTED TO REPRESENT POTTSGROVE IN THE COMPETITION. (Applications typically are available in January with a March deadline.) Abbott & Fenner Scholarship- seniors can apply for this scholarship which requires a response to an essay question and possibly receive $1,000. Students can visit the website for further information: http://www.abbottandfenner.com/scholarships.htm Academy of Massage Therapy Grant-($1,000) must be a graduating senior from Pottsgrove High School and begin attending the Academy in the July or October term; must attend as a full-time student. Students who apply should be of good character and in good standing in the community as well as school. Students must gather all necessary paperwork to mail to the address provided by the deadline. (Applications typically are available in April and should be mailed prior to June.) **The Alumni Association of Pottsgrove Award- This $400 award is available to Pottsgrove Seniors who are involved in extra-curricular activities, who maintain good grades and demonstrate citizenship. Students must write an essay: “What has Pottsgrove done for you?” and focus the response in three areas- academics, extra-curricular and educators. (Applications for this award are made available in the beginning of April and have a deadline of the first school day in May.) AES Engineers Scholarship- ($500)- seniors planning to pursue their education and who are strong academic students, any college major is eligible. Students must go on-line beginning in August to: http://www.aesengineers.com/scholarships.htm for all rules and requirements, complete the application and gather all necessary paperwork to complete application and submit by the early October deadline The American Dream Scholarships ($1,000)- recognizes the accomplishments of seniors who have demonstrated academic achievement along with a commitment to community service. Seniors must plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two-or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school in the United States; have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (B), demonstrate involvement in community service activities, volunteerism, school activities and/or employment responsibilities. (Students should apply on-line at commerceonline.com/americandream Applications can be visited beginning in late October with a mid-December deadline) The American Heritage Federal Credit Union Scholarship- ($1,000) This scholarship is available for seniors who will be attending an accredited institution, be a member in good standing of American Heritage; criteria considered for this scholarship are: academic achievement, GPA, extracurricular activities and community involvement, student evaluation and writing skills. Applications are available at www.amhfcu.org Students are responsible for obtaining all necessary materials and mailing them to the address by the deadline. ( This scholarship is usually accessible in late January and has an early April deadline.) American Legion Essay Contest (PA)- (First place- $3,500)- open to seniors, essays must have a cover page with specific information, essays must meet specifications and topic of the A.L. and are judged on proper English structure, accuracy, extent of information and originality. Students must complete the essay to all specifications and turn it in to guidance by mid January. A committee will select the winner to represent Pottsgrove High School for the early February deadline and that essay will be forwarded to the local post for judging at the next level. American Legion Oratorical Contest- (First place- $7,500)- The contest will consist of two parts. (A) An 8-10 minute, memorized oration will be given on some phase of the US Constitution. (B) A 3-5 minute extemporary oration on one of the four “assigned topics” assigned by National Headquarters. (Applications are mailed to the guidance office and are available in late November with a deadline to the local post in mid-January). Students are responsible for preparing all materials and getting them into the hands of the local AL post. **American Legion of Pottsgrove Post #244 Americanism Award(medallion, pin, certificate) seniors, who have or have had family members in a military branch of service or who are planning to enter a military service organization or ROTC. Students must pick up an application in guidance in early April, complete application and essay and return to guidance for the early May deadline. American Welding Society Scholarship- ($500)- (Students can apply for both the section and district scholarships and are both included- seniors who have a real interest and desire to advance his/her education and training in the field of welding or materials joining or welding intensive education……metallurgy, chemistry, physics, engineering, blue-print reading etc. and must be a US citizen. Students must complete application and gather all necessary paperwork and return all to the address provided by the deadline. (Applications are typically available in guidance in mid-January and have a deadline of early March. The Anna M. Vincent Scholarship- (between $1,000 and $5,000)- seniors pursuing higher education, worthy of financial assistance. Students who have not held a paying job while in school may not be considered for funding. Students must complete an application on-line at: www.annavincent.org The deadline for this application is typically March 1st. Students are responsible for securing all necessary materials and recommendation requests. The Arthur Nuzzo Memorial Scholarship- ($100)- senior from Pottstown area high schools interested in photography with evidence of involvement in school activities, church or community service, and/or after school employment. Applications are available in the guidance office in early April and are due back in guidance mid-May). A representative will pick up applications and materials in guidance. Students are responsible for gathering all necessary materials and submitting them in whole form in guidance. Asian American Nursing Scholarship- seniors from Asian Heritage, who have financial need, are accepted into an accredited Nursing program, have a willingness to work post graduation at Methodist for 3 years and write an essay focused on the reasons for selective a nursing career. Students must pick up an application in the guidance office (available in April and all applications and materials must be prepared by student and mailed by the June deadline). Asian American Women’s Coalition Cecilia Moy Yep Scholarship($5,000)- seniors, Asian American female students who excelled in her studies in high school, pursuing an undergraduate education, have a 3.0 (B) GPA, demonstrate financial need. Students must gather and provide all necessary materials for the committee and follow instructions for submission. (Applications are typically available in late January for a mid-March deadline.) Automotive Training Center Scholarship- seniors interested in attending ATC should plan to take the scholarship test at a time designated. There are multiple test dates throughout the year. Students should visit the website at www.autotraining.edu for more information and test dates and times for scholarship eligibility. AXA Achievement Community Scholarship- ($2,000)- seniors pursuing higher education, who have ambition and drive, determination to set and reach goals, respect for self, family and community, and the ability to succeed in college. Students must go on-line to www.axa-achievement.com for scholarship applications and requirements. Students are responsible for securing the appropriate evaluations, recommendations and materials to complete the application. Students must have all materials prepared by the deadline and forward those materials to the address provided. (Deadline for this scholarship is typically mid-February). (B) Beneficial Scholars Program Scholarships- (one $20,000 and one $5,000)high school seniors who plan to attend an accredited higher education institution. Must complete an essay provided by Beneficial (example: “What is the most important issue facing your larger community or your specific neighborhood and how would you act as a force for good in responding to this concern?” (Applications typically sent to guidance office in late October with a mid-December deadline.) Student is responsible for mailing all necessary materials to address provided by the deadline.) B. Davis Scholarship- ($1,000)- juniors and seniors, essay less than 1,000 words responding to the following: What do you consider to be the most important issue that society has to deal with in the next 10 or 20 years? Palladino Memorial Scholarship- ($1,000)- seniors who have exhibited potential to succeed in a building trades career, is involved in the community and has a “C” scholastic average or better. Students can pick up an application in guidance sometime in late February. Student must complete application and gather all necessary materials and mail to the address provided by the early April deadline. BigSun Scholarship- ($500)-seniors athletes who succeed in their academic pursuits and who are continuing their education. Black Women’s Educational Alliance Academic Minority Scholarshipseniors, continuing education; GPA of 3.0 (B); students must complete an application and gather all necessary materials. Berks Technical Institute Scholarship- seniors interested in attending BTI should plan to take the scholarship test at a time designated. There are multiple test dates throughout the year. Students should visit the website at www.berks.edu for more information and test dates and times for scholarship eligibility. Best Buy Scholarships- for students in grades 9-12. Apply on-line at www.bestbuy-communityrelations.com or www.at15.com Deadline: Mid-February Bounce Energy “Be More” Scholarship- ($2,500)- current high school students, minimum GPA 3.0, PA resident. Complete a 500 word essay and application on line at: http://www.bounceenergy.com/scholarships Applications are typically available at the beginning of April and have a late May deadline. Burger King Scholars Program- ($1,000, $5,000 and $25,000)- seniors who are actively employed at least part time (do not have to be employed by Burger King), planning on continuing education must visit the website at www.haveityourwayfoundation.org/burger_king_scholars_program.html Students are responsible for providing and securing all necessary information. Buick Achievers Scholarship- ($25,000 and $2,000)- seniors who will be enrolling for full-time study as a first-time freshmen at a 4-year college or university, plan to major in one of the following: Math, Business Administration, Finance, Marketing, or Design and are interested in a career in the automotive or related industries. Students must go on-line at www.buickachievers.com for the application and instructions. Students are responsible for all materials. (C) **Carl Burns Jr. Scholarship- ($1,000)- for a senior preparing for a post secondary education and is based on acceptance and enrollment in a post secondary educational program. Applicants must exhibit exemplary character and financial need. Students must respond to an essay question, “How have your parents, your school and your participation in organizations helped to develop the character that you possess?” Students must pick up the application in guidance in the beginning of April and return to guidance by the early May deadline with all necessary materials attached. Cecilia Moy Yep Scholarship- ($1,250 for four years)- senior Asian American female students who have excelled in her studies or other fields of endeavor and plan to continue education, 3.0 GPA, financial need, extracurricular activities and community service. Students can pick up the application at the end of February and collect all necessary materials and mail by the late March deadline provided. **The Charles R. Graham Scholarship- (varies from $100 to $2,000)- is given annually to a student in the Pottsgrove High School graduating class who plans to prepare for a professional service occupation in health care, criminology, or social service. Priority will be given to candidates who will study criminology. Students must pick up application form in the beginning of April in guidance, complete form and provide proof of acceptance. Deadline to return form to guidance office is the beginning of May. Coca-Cola Scholars Program Scholarship- ($20,000 and $10,000)- seniors who demonstrate leadership in school, a commitment to community, show academic achievement and are employed part-time. Students must go on-line at http://www.coca-colascholars.org and apply on-line. st Deadline is October 31 each year. The College JumpStart Scholarship- up to $1,500 to 10-12 graders and is a merit-based scholarship; students must be legal residents of US and attend a college in US in major of choice. Apply on-line at: www.jumpstart-scholarship.net by mid-April deadline. Commitment to Agriculture Scholarship- seniors pursuing careers in agriculture must go on-line at www.monsanto.com or www.nafb.com for information and application. **Craig Hunter Memorial Scholarship- ($500 + 1 year membership to Pottstown Y)- seniors, planning on attending a four year college or university; member of the Pottstown YMCA and the Fitness/Wellness Center; involved in school and community activities, taken an art class at Pottsgrove. Students must pick up application in early April in guidance or at the YMCA. Applications must be returned to the guidance office by the early May deadline. (D) David Michael Reid Foundation Scholarship- ( 1 full scholarship/tuition, board, books)- open to seniors who have a stellar history of academic performance or who show a significant improvement from a challenging first year or two in high school, minimum 3.0 (B) GPA, combined SAT (CR+M) 1000, be an active participant in extracurricular activities, be a positive contributor to his or her community and display financial need. Students must pick up the application in guidance in early January, gather ALL necessary materials and place them together in a sealed envelope, returning them to the guidance office in late January. A committee will evaluate the applications and will submit one (1) to the Foundation for consideration Dear Mr. President Essay Contest- (between $1,000 and $5,000)- open to high school seniors. Topic: “What important issue would you like the President to address?” All information can be found on the website at randmcnally.com/dearmrpresident Deadline is late November (be sure to check Thanksgiving holiday break dates so that you can have a teacher submit it for you on time.) Delaware Valley Association of School Business Officials- seniors pursuing business majors at an institution of higher learning. Students must visit the website for information, application and deadline and are responsible for preparing all documentation: open beginning in January with a late March deadline. Delaware Valley Engineers Outstanding High School Student Scholarship($1,000)- seniors considering majoring in engineering. Students may go on-line in late October to: www.dvewc.org complete application, essays and student must gather all necessary paperwork including recommendations and submit them to the address provided by the mid-November deadline. Delaware Valley School Facility Managers Association Scholarship- (up to $2,000)- for seniors who are planning to continue their education at a trade or technical school (with coursework concentrated in the building trades such as HVAC, plumbing, electric etc. Students must pick up application in guidance office at the beginning of March, gather ALL necessary materials and complete application and mail to the address provided by the mid-April deadline. **Donna J. Webber Memorial Scholarship- ($10,000)- for a POTTSGROVE senior preparing to enter a Christian College. Consideration for this four year scholarship will be based on acceptance and enrollment in a recognized Christian college (SEE LIST OF APPROVED COLLEGES IN GUIDANCE OFFICE). Students will respond to the following question: “What do you wish to do with your life that will benefit humanity?” Students must pick up an application in guidance at the beginning of April and return to the guidance office for the early May deadline. Dunkin’ Donuts Scholarship- ($1,000)- open to seniors who plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school. For complete requirements go to www.dunkindonuts.com/scholarships Applications are open from the beginning of March through mid-April. Natalie Dunning Scholarship-((EDUCATION) & W. Gordon Dunning Scholarship ((MEDICINE))- (up to but not to exceed the tuition and room and board of the college)- seniors, top 25% of class, pursuing a career in medicine or education. Students must pick up an application, complete it and gather all necessary materials then mail application materials to the address provided June 1st (A complete final transcript must be received by the committee by June 15***student must secure this official transcript from guidance and mail by the deadline.) (E) Educational Communications Scholarship Foundation- (between $1,000 and $6,000)- seniors who have taken the SAT or ACT, US Citizen. Students must visit the website at www.ecisf.org for further information and for an application. ECSF does charge $4 for processing the application. Empire Education Group/Empire Beauty School Scholarship- (between $500 and $1,500)- for seniors planning to attend Empire’s Cosmetology program. Students must attend the scheduled evaluation days. Student can pick up an application in guidance or visit the website at www.empire.edu/highschool Applications are made available in October and students must mail all materials by the May deadline (or contact Empire for earlier evaluation) EPAITDM- Easter PA Information Technology Data Manager’s Scholarship- (up to $1,000) seniors planning to attend at least a two year post high school academic or vocational program, must have interest in the field of technology/computer science. Gates Millennium Scholarship- seniors who are African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American, US Citizen, have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 (B+), planning on enrolling for the first time as a full-time degree-seeking student, have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular or other activities, meet the Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria. Three forms must be completed: nominee personal information form, nominator form, recommender form. Gofus Memorial Scholarship- ($500)-for seniors who are highly active in both sports and music at Pottsgrove High School and have either or both for at least three years, have a parent involved in the Varsity Club Boosters or Music Boosters, have been accepted in a fulltime, post high school educational institution geared toward certification or degree attainment, have a minimum GPA of a 2.75 (C+). Greater Phoenixville Healthcare Scholarship- (up to $8,000)- seniors planning on attending an undergraduate or technical health care program, must be in good academic standing (2.75- C+). Greater Pottstown Foundation Scholarship for the Arts- seniors, planning to enter an accredited degree-granting college or university to study the arts, open to Pottsgrove, Pottstown, Hill School, OJ Roberts. Guardian Girls Going Places Entrepreneurial Scholarship- (up to $10,000)cash prizes to girls who are enterprising and community-minded, who demonstrate budding entrepreneurship, taking the first steps toward financial independence and making a difference in schools and communities. Students are responsible for an essay and securing the proper letters of endorsement. (H) Harrisburg Battalion of the US Army Youth Leadership Essay/Scholarship(up to $1,000)- students must pick up an application form in guidance or on-line in September, complete application and address topic of contest: (ie: “Interview a Veteran and tell us what attribute, trait, belief or value you admire most about this person and why.”) All entries must be submitted by the student to the address provided by the late November deadline. “Haz Lah U”- Make the U Hispanic Heritage Scholarship- (up to $15,000)Students will need to log on to: www.colgate.com/hazlau and follow the application process to submit 3 short essays of 500 words or less on a selection of topics. Horatio Alger Scholarship- seniors, planning on attending college in the fall after graduation, have a strong commitment to pursuing a bachelor’s degree at an accredited institution located in the US (students may start their studies at a two-year institution and then transfer to a four-year institution, have critical financial need ($50,000 or less adjusted gross income per family is preferred, if higher explanation must be provided), be involved in co-curricular and community activities, demonstrate integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity, have a minimum GPA of 2.0 (C) and be a US Citizen. All paperwork and materials must be gathered by the student and mailed to the address provided by the late October deadline. Hospital Central Services Inc. Student Volunteer Scholarship (Keystone Bloodbank)- ($1,000)- seniors who completed a minimum of 135 hours of volunteer service to the Blood Center in no less than a cumulative two calendar year period. The student must be in good academic standing with a 2.5 GPA (C+) and acceptable citizenship and attendance. The student must be planning to attend an accredited post secondary educational program. JCI Senate Foundation Scholarship- ($500)- seniors who plan to continue their education at an accredited post-secondary college, university or vocational school. The John McKee Scholarship- (up to $16,000)- college or vocational training scholarships for seniors who are: fatherless boys, in need of financial assistance. Students must pick up an application in the guidance office in December, complete application and secure all necessary materials, and provide all materials in order in a stamped envelope to your counselor for completion of the school form. Counselor will complete school form and mail the materials student provided. Applications are typically due in the beginning of February and the student must allow appropriate amount of time for completion of counselor form. (K) KFC Colonel’s Scholarship- (up to $20,000)- seniors with financial need and an entrepreneurial spirit, earn a minimum high school GPA of 2.75 (C+), enroll in a public college or university within their state of legal residence, plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree, be a US Citizen. KIWANIS Club Scholarship- (up to $4,000)- seniors in good standing with the school, teachers, administrators and local community, plan to continue with higher education following graduation, must have a 3.0 or higher GPA. Kohl’s Kids Who Care Scholarship- (up to $10,000)- this program recognizes and rewards young volunteers who have helped make their communities a better place. Volunteer efforts must have occurred in the last year, actions must be described in detail and should document efforts above and beyond what is normally expected. Students must request that their volunteer nominator go on-line to complete nominator form (this person should be familiar with your volunteering experiences and be able to speak to these). Laws of Life Essay Contest- The "Laws of Life" essay contest is open to seniors who intend to enroll at an institution of higher learning. Valero Memorials Scholarship- As part of the PSEA Scholarship Trust, this scholarship is awarded to one or more outstanding students each year who plan to enroll in an accredited teacher preparation program in the state of Pennsylvania. Students must register late October through early May on-line at: offtocollege.info Susanna DeLaurentis Memorial Scholarship- ($1,000)- college-bound seniors with superior academic and extracurricular achievements who contend with a chronic disease or other serious challenge to physical or mental health. (T) Tanitha Kulsiri Memorial Scholarship- ($500-$1,000)- seniors pursuing a BS/BA degree at an accredited college// and another scholarship for a senior living with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE). Students must go on-line for all instructions and to complete an application beginning in January and prepare all materials for mailing by the May deadline. Tri County Area Federal Credit Union- ($1,500)- seniors, members and children of members of the Tri County Area Federal Credit Union, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, planning to further your education at an accredited college or trade school. Students should go on-line in January at: www.tcafcu.org for scholarship information and application, complete application and essay, gather all necessary paperwork to complete the application and submit it by the mid-March deadline. Tri-County Assoc. of NAIFA/Keytone Foundation Undergraduate College Schol.- open to PA seniors is a $4,000 award. Awards are based on student’s leadership potential, financial need, academic merit and community service. Applications can be picked up in the guidance office in mid-February and must be returned to guidance with ALL materials including letters of recommendation by mid-March. Tri-County Career Women Student Scholarship- female seniors, planning to continue education. This scholarship may not be available each year. It involves completing an application, essays and transcript. If scholarship is offered it will be available in early March in the guidance office. (U) USW Hugh Carcella Scholarship- ($4,000)- seniors, children of member of a United Steelworkers, District 10 (Eastern) local union—(or child of retiree, disabled or deceased member). Selection will be based on grades and SAT score. Students must obtain an application from the participating local union in November, complete the application and gather supporting documentation and signatures and mail by the midMarch deadline. USA Funds Scholarship- ($1,500)- seniors with financial need, are members of an ethnic minority group or are physically disabled. Students must visit the website from mid-December to the deadline date in midFebruary for details and to complete the application. (V) Valley Forge Chapter/Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers($200-$25,000)- seniors planning to attend Drexel University or Temple University to major in Engineering, must meet/exceed minimum test scores (SAT M-600; CR-500), US Citizen. Violet Richardson Award/Soroptimist International- ($500)- female high school students who make the community and world a better place through volunteer efforts such as: fighting drugs, crime and violence; cleaning u the environment; and working to end discrimination and poverty. Volunteer actions that benefit women or girls are of particular interest. (W) **Walter & Bertha Wolf Scholarship- ($500 yr for 4 years)- seniors, basis for selection is financial need, scholastic ability and evidence of college acceptance. Financial need is the controlling factor. This scholarship will be given to students whose residence is in LOWER Pottsgrove. If additional scholarships are available after qualified students from Lower are selected, students living in other townships (Upper and West) will also be considered. Deadline is typically in mid-January. Wendy’s High School Heisman Scholarship- seniors with a “B” average, who participate in at least one sport and who is a leader in school and in the community. Students must request that their counselor be the “reviewer” for their application upon completion. Deadline is early March. Wisniewski, Jr. Memorial Scholarship- ($1,000)- Pottsgrove High School Seniors ONLY- must be attending Western Montgomery Center for Technical Studies (WMCTC), must be planning to continue your education at a trade, technical, community, or at a two or fouryear college; student must supply proof of acceptance; students should have satisfactory academic record that indicates they will be good prospects to succeed academically continuing their education; and demonstrate that they are either conscientious employees or students. Students must write a 250-word essay explaining why they are applying for the scholarship and their career and future educational goals; must exhibit exemplary character and financial need.
