No. 133 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, March 5, 1995, is a day of special significance in the life of Pastor Walter Hallam, for on this day he will celebrate his 10th anniversary in the pulpit of the church he founded, the Abundant Life Christian Center in La Marque; and WHEREAS, This accomplished clergyman has followed in the footsteps of his parents, Bill and Betty Hallam, whose remarkable ministry in Southeast Texas has touched the lives of countless individuals for nearly four decades, and the devout Christian upbringing he received from his parents filled Pastor Hallam with the calling to preach from an early age; and WHEREAS, In 1976, Pastor Hallam was united in marriage to his devoted wife, Cindy, and the couple began their ministry together, remaining faithful in service to God at a local church until 1982, when they moved to Pineland to serve another congregation; and WHEREAS, Through hard work and prayer, their newly adopted church prospered, and, after three years of dedicated service, the Hallams moved to Galveston County with the goal of founding a family oriented Christian outreach center; and WHEREAS, At the time Abundant Life Christian Center was founded in 1985, its initial congregation included 10 members who gathered to worship in the Hallam home; in just 10 short years, the center has become one of the fastest-growing churches in the Gulf Coast area with more than 2,500 members; and WHEREAS, On Easter Day 1987, the center moved to its present location on Casey Street; since that time, the growth of the congregation has been reflected in the addition of an education building, the expansion of the original sanctuary to double its capacity, and the construction of a family life center on the church's 35-acre complex; and WHEREAS, Under Pastor Hallam's expert direction, the church has undertaken many important ministries as well, including the Abundant Life Christian School, the Abundant Life School of Ministry, and the Abundant Life Ministries of National Destiny; these ministries have in turn inspired other Christian men and women to establish churches in such remote nations as Zambia, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, and Ireland, to name but a few; and WHEREAS, This dynamic preacher has brought his ministry via satellite to citizens throughout the entire northern part of the western hemisphere through the Abundant Life Evangelistic Media Ministry, and he also has founded the "Voice of Faith" media ministry to bring the gospel into the homes of his fellow Christians through television, radio, and print; and WHEREAS, In the course of pursuing his many interests, Pastor Hallam has been blessed with the support of his wife, Cindy, and the couple are the proud parents of three daughters, Catherine, Angela, and Jennifer; and WHEREAS, In Pastor Hallam, the church has found a preacher, a prophet, and a stalwart friend for the work of the ministry; his religious guidance has provided comfort and inspiration to numerous individuals, and he is indeed worthy of our highest praise and recognition as he celebrates his first decade of service to his church and the greater Galveston County community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas Legislature hereby commend Walter Hallam for his service as pastor of Abundant Life Christian Center and extend warmest best wishes to him for continued success and fulfillment in the years to come; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Pastor Hallam as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
