Project Coordinator – Healthcare Associated Infections MCD Public Health, a division of Medical Care Development (MCD), Inc., is seeking a talented professional to serve as a Project Coordinator to provide staff support for the Maine CDC, Division of Infectious Diseases (DID), Maine Healthcare Associated Infections (HAI) Program. The position will be housed at the Key Bank Building with DID staff in Augusta. The position requires a person with both a keen attention to detail and follow through to meet deadlines. The Project Coordinator position is a full-time, 40 hour per week position that is eligible for MCD’s benefit package. The Project Coordinator will help to assess and build the capacity for Maine to detect, report, and respond to potential HAI outbreaks and emerging pathogen threats. This will include assessing general infection prevention and emerging pathogen readiness, identify areas that need improvement, and assist with developing a plan for improvement through consulting and connecting with healthcare facilities and the state HAI advisory council, using available resources. The Project Coordinator will have primary responsibility for the following tasks within DID: Develop clear HAI outbreak definitions of infectious threats of epidemiologic importance Respond to HAI outbreak reports, by collecting epidemiologic data Develop a generic HAI outbreak Case Report Form Participate in state HAI outbreak investigations Develop processes to track HAI outbreaks Determine gaps in HAI outbreak reporting and outbreak response for all healthcare settings. Address gaps in outbreak response capacity by facilitating training and improvements Compose annual progress report of the state’s capacity to detect, report, and investigate HAI outbreaks Develop an HAI outbreak communication plan for the state and healthcare facilities Explore public reporting of outbreaks Create an inventory of all healthcare settings (acute care, extended care, ambulatory care) in the state Analyze existing HAI data to identify regional opportunities for improvement as well as target local facility on-site Infection Control assessments for facilities with a high number of infections Conduct healthcare facility Infection Control assessments The individual in this position will interact with key internal and external stakeholders and therefore must possess excellent interpersonal skills, ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships. This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree. Applicants should have a combination of six (6) years of education, training, and/or experience in health, public health or related fields. Applicants with a master’s degree in public health or a healthcare field and experience with project management, infection control assessment/survey, outbreak investigations and NHSN & NEDSS databases is a plus. Competencies among successful candidates are expected to be consistent with those identified by the Public Health Foundation Council on Linkages as Level II.
