SUMMER 2013 APPLICATION
ALL PROGRAMS:
 Aim to increase the number of underrepresented minority, low-income, and first-generation students
who transfer to four-year colleges after completing their AA or AS degrees
 Provide an intensive full-time summer experience at Purchase College
BRIDGES TO THE BACCALAUREATE/
RESEARCH & SCIENCE VISIONS PREPARATION (BRIDGES/RSVP)

Students in the Bridges program engage in intensive research in one of several different aspects of the sciences,
including psychology, math/computer science, chemistry, biology, and environmental science. Students
work in small groups alongside faculty mentors, spending the majority of most days engaged in active research.
Students receive a stipend for their work and a reduced housing rate if they choose to live on campus. Students
are not permitted to hold outside jobs during the program.
BACCALAUREATE AND BEYOND (B&B)

B&B students take an intensive five-week course that integrates the Social Sciences and Humanities and do
independent study on a related topic of interest to them. The tuition for the three-credit course is paid for by
the program. Students also receive on-campus housing, and a small stipend to help with living costs. Students
are not permitted to hold outside jobs during the program.

Student must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
Student must be at least 18 years old and a high school graduate.
Student must be enrolled in a degree program FULL-TIME (taking at least 12 credits) during the 2012-2013
academic year.
First-year community college students must have had a minimum high school average of 80.
Second-year community college students must have a minimum GPA of 2.8.
Student must meet at least one of the following requirements:

Have demonstrated financial need
o
Be a first generation college student
o
Be a member of an underrepresented minority group
APPLICATION PROCEDURES
1.
Detach and complete the attached application form.
2.
Write an essay (maximum 500 words) describing who you are, what your plans for the future are, and how you
feel the summer program you have chosen (Bridges/RSVP or B&B) will help you achieve those plans.
3.
Request a letter of recommendation from a faculty member and provide him/her with the attached Faculty
Recommendation Form after completing your portion of it. Be sure to advise the faculty member of the
deadline.
4.
Include a copy of a transcript from all schools you have attended, including high school if you are a first year
student.
5.
Return the following to:
