Diploma Requirements ADVANCED DIPLOMA WITH HONORS The recipient of this diploma must meet the following requirements: 30 units of credit in grades 9-12 and in certain courses in grade 8, as required by the Alabama State Board of Education and the Mobile County Board of School Commissioners, including 20½ units of specifically required credit. 9½ units of elective credit. 4 units of credit in Honors, Dual Enrollment, Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate English Composition and Literature. 4 units of credit in Mathematics from the following sequence: Algebra 1, Geometry, Honors Algebra 2/Trigonometry, and at least one (1) other Honors-level Mathematics course. This does not include Algebra 1A/1B nor Geometry A/B. 4 units of credit in Honors, Dual Enrollment, Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate Social Studies to include World History, U.S. History - Beginning to 1877, U.S. History - 1877 to Present, U.S. Government, and Economics. 4 units of credit in Science to include Honors Biology, College-Preparatory Chemistry, College-Preparatory or Advanced Placement Physics, and one (1) Science elective. 2 units of credit in the same World Language. 1 unit of credit in Physical Education. ½ unit of credit in Health Education. ½ unit of credit in Fine Arts. ½ unit of credit in Computer Applications. Minimum GPA of 3.5 in all courses in grades 9-12, and in certain courses in grade 8, as computed by the procedures for weighting of grades and ranking approved by the Mobile County Board of School Commissioners. Satisfactory attendance and conduct record as determined by a faculty committee and the principal. Passing score on each section of the AHSGE. ALTERNATE ADULT HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA The Alternate High School Diploma is an option for twelfth-grade students who have not passed all required subject-area tests of the Alabama High School Graduation Exam after the Fall administration of their senior year. The recipient of this diploma must meet the following requirements: 28 units of credit in grades 9-12 and in certain courses in grade 8, as required by the Alabama State Board of Education and the Mobile County Board of School Commissioners, including 18½ units of specifically required credit. 9½ units of elective credit. 4 units of credit in English Composition and Literature. 4 units of credit in Mathematics to include Algebra 1, Geometry, and two (2) other Mathematics elective credits. ALABAMA OCCUPATIONAL DIPLOMA Effective for students with disabilities as defined by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), the recipient of this diploma must meet the following requirements: 24 units of credit in certain courses as required by the Alabama State Board of Education and the Mobile County Board of School Commissioners. 4 units of credit in English Language Arts: LS English I-IV. 4 units of credit in Mathematics: Essential Mathematics I and II AND Algebraic Explorations I and II. 4 units of credit in Social Studies: LS I - World History, LS II - U.S. History - Beginning to 1877, LS III - U.S. History - 1877 to Present, LS IV Economics, and LS IV - U.S. Government. 4 units of credit in Science: LS I - Biology 9, LS II - Physical Science, LS III - Earth/Space Science 11, and LS IV - Environmental Science. 1 unit of credit in Physical Education. ½ unit of credit in Health Education. ½ unit of credit in Fine Arts. 2 units of credit in Career Technical Education. 1 unit of credit in Coordinated Studies. 1 unit of credit in Cooperative Career Technical Education. 2 units of elective credit. Completion of Community-Based Work Instruction Program. Attempt all five sections of the AHSGE in Junior (11th grade) year of high school. CERTIFICATE OF EDUCATION The recipient of this certificate must meet the following requirements: Receive Special Education services and successfully complete the prescribed program specified in his/her Individual Education Program (IEP) and not pass the Alabama High School Graduation Exam; or Receive Special Education services, pass all sections of the Alabama High School Graduation Exam, but not complete the required number of Carnegie units of credit. 24 units of credit in certain courses as required by the Alabama State Board of Education and the Mobile County Board of School Commissioners. 4 units of credit in English Basic. 4 units of credit in Mathematics: Math 9 Basic, Algebra 1A Basic, Algebra 1B Basic, and Geometry A Basic. 4 units of credit in Science: Biology Basic, Physical Science Basic, Earth and Space Science Basic, and Environment Science Basic. 4 units of credit in Social Studies: World History 9 Basic, U.S. History to 1877 Basic, U.S. History 1877 to Present Basic, Economics Basic, and American Government Basic. 2 units of credit in Reading Intervention (READ 180, Failure Free, Language!). ½ unit of credit in Health Education (Regular or Basic). ½ unit of credit in Driver's Education (Regular or Basic). 1 unit of Physical Education. 4 units of elective credit (Employability Skills, Transition Services, Applied Occupational Development). A special needs student may return to the Mobile County Public Schools to complete course requirements for a diploma without tuition cost to the recipient until age 21.
