As part of the 400 th anniversary celebrations for the King James Bible, Durham Diocese has organised the Bible Journey – a complete reading of the Bible, from cover to cover, around the churches of the diocese. Each deanery is responsible for seven hours of reading: Stockton Deanery’s readings will take place on Thursday, 31 st March.
The readings will begin at 8.00am at St Peter’s Wolviston, and there will be an hour at each venue with half an hour between each. Venues include Anglican and Methodist churches, and the Cave Café at the A Way Out charity in central Stockton. (A Way Out stands for At Risk Women And Youth Outreach.)
We’re reading from a section of the bible from 1 Kings 9 to 1 Chronicles 22, in 15 minute blocks. The first block at each venue will be read from the King James Bible.
Every one of the other 21 blocks will be from a different Bible version, to make the day even more interesting. At each venue there will also be a short reading from David
Crystal’s new book, Begat, which takes a fascinating and entertaining look at the King James Bible.
Refreshments will be provided at the morning and afternoon venues, and you’re invited to bring something to eat at the lunchtime venue. The day ends at St Cuthbert’s Redmarshall as we read the last hour, and share wine and nibbles.
You’re encouraged to join in any part of the day you like, but especially the readings at Wolviston and Redmarshall. In particular it would be lovely to have some volunteers to read. Please email David (david@revd.co.uk), or call Harrison
Mullen (01429 293265) if you’d like to be involved so that arrangements can be finalised.
