Called Frank this morning and left a message. I’m assuming tomorrow is
the field work. When you have some time today maybe we can visit about
where and when to meet tomorrow and what I should bring.
Wanted to touch base with you about Lunch- Laura wants to know if she can
join us so we can solidify what you want to see for the next presentation
to the County with Andy.

The meeting went well. The next step will be to get together with County
Staff and I am anticipating this meeting the first or second week of
February, 2010. The only item that was questioned was the smoke testing
on Siesta key. The cleaning and televising is almost complete with a lot
of I/I on the Key. I will be in touch the next couple of days to map out
our plan.

Elevations taken with mapping grade GPS are accurate to within 2 meters
(roughly 6.5 feet). We find this level of error isn’t reliable for any
work processes needing a vertical component. To upgrade the data
collection to survey grade GPS to collect useable elevations is a
SIGNIFICANT increase in cost.

Hi Evan,
I got your voicemail, thanks for the information. The sites we would be
visiting include all lift stations on Siesta Key and within the Venice
Gardens WRF service area, as well as selected manholes (maybe about 1/3
of them) in both of those service areas. If you already have the GIS
done for these locations then we could remove that task from our scope of
work and save Rodney some money. Or, we could take the coordinates to
provide you with a double check on your existing GIS data, if you feel
that would be helpful. Please let us know where you are with the GIS in
these areas.
Rodney,
Evan told me that the County does not take vertical (z coordinate) data
for the County’s mapping grade GIS (which is the County standard). So,
perhaps the GIS component will not be needed in our project unless you
want that information for some other purpose. Even if the z-coordinates
were taken, I believe mapping grade GIS is only accurate to within 2-3
feet (Even, correct me if I’m wrong). Elevations with that accuracy may
not be beneficial for other purposes such as modeling, etc.
